Both the Yamaha Aerox E and Simple Ultra are presented as premium electric scooters with exorbitant pricing in the Indian market

The premium electric scooter segment is growing gradually in the Indian market with more and more brands launching new models in this category. Presently, the two prominent e-scooters in this segment are Yamaha Aerox E and Simple Ultra, which were introduced on July 8 and April 17, respectively, in our country. In this piece, we will carry out a detailed comparison of both these premium electric scooters with respect to their price, range, battery pack and features.

The Aerox E electric scooter was launched at a staggering price point of Rs 2.82 lakh (ex-showroom, Bengaluru) in the country. As of now, it is available in five cities namely New Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai and Bengaluru through Yamaha Blue Square Showrooms. On the other hand, Simple Ultra electric scooter was rolled out at a sticker price of Rs 2.35 lakh (ex-showroom) in the Indian market.

Since the Ultra e-scooter was launched almost three months before the Aerox E, its deliveries commenced earlier throughout the country. In terms of pricing too, it has the upperhand over its Yamaha rival due to being more affordable by around Rs 47,000. The buyers looking to save money will certainly consider this massive difference in pricing of the two electric scooters.

Being the brand’s flagship model, Simple Ultra is packed with a 6.5 kWh battery pack which returns an IDC range of 400 km on a full charge. It comes with a top speed of 115 kmph while doing the 0-40 kmph sprint in merely 2.77 secs. Simple Energy claims that the Ultra is India’s second fastest electric scooter, after the Simple One 5 kWh variant.

As for the Yamaha Aerox E, it is powered by two detachable battery packs of 1.5 kWh each as the maximum range stands at 117 km (Indian Driving Cycle) on a single charge. It has a top speed of 95.5 kmph (With Power + Boost mode). The battery is connected to a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM), which delivers top power of 12.6 bhp and peak torque of 48 Nm. As visible, the Ultra has relatively higher range and top speed than the Aerox E.

Yamaha Aerox-E has been equipped with an array of premium features such as Single-channel ABS, Smart key system, Traction control system, Reverse mode, Boost mode and Multiple ride modes (Eco, Standard, and Power). It gets a 5-inch coloured TFT screen with Y-connect mobile app connectivity to access a plethora of functions in the form of turn-by-turn navigation, maintenance reminders and last parked location. The Aerox E is rolled out with front and rear disc brakes as standard.

Simple Ultra is offered with a 7-inch instrument cluster and four-level traction control as standard features. In addition, it gets 6 ride modes, regen braking, hill hold, fast charging, incognito mode, navigation, call and music control, drop safe, live location sharing, geo-fencing, front and rear disc brakes. As we can see, both electric scooters, more or less, come with a similar set of bells and whistles.
