The new Himalayan 440 costs Rs 2.29 lakh, but several adventure and crossover motorcycles offer a different take on the same idea
The Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 has returned as a simpler and more affordable alternative to the Himalayan 450, priced at Rs 2.29 lakh ex-showroom. It gets a 443 cc air-cooled single making 25.4 bhp and 34 Nm, along with a 21-inch front wheel, 220 mm ground clearance and an 800 mm seat height. But if you are shopping in this price bracket, there are a few interesting alternatives worth considering.
1. TVS Apache RTX 300
The newest name on this list is the Apache RTX 300, which sits right in Himalayan 440 territory. It offers a smaller engine but is positioned as a more modern adventure motorcycle. With prices extending up to around Rs 2.29 lakh, the top-spec RTX 300 could be an interesting alternative for someone who wants adventure styling without the Himalayan’s relatively old-school mechanical approach.
2. Suzuki V-Strom SX
The V-Strom SX takes a more road-biased approach. Its 249 cc single-cylinder engine produces 26.1 bhp, while the motorcycle weighs just around 167 kg. That makes it dramatically lighter than the 199 kg Himalayan 440. It is also cheaper, starting at around Rs 1.98 lakh, making it a sensible option for riders who spend most of their time on tarmac but still want some touring and light-trail ability.
3. KTM 250 Adventure
The KTM is the more performance-oriented choice here. Priced at around Rs 2.46 lakh, it costs more than the Himalayan 440 but brings KTM’s sharper chassis and adventure-bike character to the table. It is worth considering if outright handling and a more energetic riding experience matter more to you than the Himalayan’s relaxed, torque-focused personality.
4. Yezdi Adventure
The Yezdi Adventure remains one of the most direct alternatives, especially on price. Starting at around Rs 1.98 lakh, it undercuts the Himalayan 440 by a useful margin. It also offers a 334 cc engine and genuine adventure-bike hardware, making it an interesting option for buyers who want a proper ADV without crossing the Rs 2.5 lakh mark.
5. Royal Enfield Scram 440
And then there is the obvious one. The Scram 440 shares the Himalayan 440’s 443cc engine, producing 25.4 bhp and 34 Nm, but replaces the full ADV format with a more road-friendly scrambler setup. Prices start at around Rs 2.25 lakh, making it only marginally cheaper. If you don’t see yourself tackling serious trails, the Scram could actually be the more sensible Royal Enfield.
The Himalayan 440, though, has one big advantage over most of these motorcycles: it feels purpose-built for adventure touring without going overboard on price or complexity. If your idea of a weekend ride involves leaving the tarmac behind, the Himalayan 440 remains one of the strongest all-round choices in this price bracket.
