New Yamaha Electric Scooter Design Patent Leaked

The latest e-scooter from Yamaha boasts of a centrally mounted electric motor and belt drive system, reveals the design registration in Japan

Yamaha has filed the design patent of an all-new electric scooter in Japan. This new model is question appears to be in production-ready form while it doesn’t look remotely connected to any of the brand’s current range of e-scooters. However, the silhouette seems to be inspired by the India-spec RayZR 125. Presently, the Japanese brand retails two electric scooters in the Indian market in the form of the EC 06 and Aerox E. Both these models are priced well above the 1.50 lakh mark and hence, the newly patented e-scooter could be a budget-friendly mass-market offering.

The design registration in Japan reveals that the new Yamaha electric scooter gets a centrally mounted electric motor, identical to the India-bound EC 06. The power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a belt drive system in such a setup. For reference, Yamaha Aerox E comes with a swingarm-mounted electric motor. We can also notice the long single-piece seat.

The new e-scooter could house the battery pack underneath the seat, which makes us believe that it could be a detachable unit. The patent images further show that the dual shock rear suspension are positioned much forward on the swingarm as compared to the conventional setup. The front and rear disc brakes are also visible in the design patent.

Some of the notable styling elements include twin LED headlamp setup, V-shaped daytime running lamp (DRL), angular tail-lamp cluster and small luggage pockets in the front apron. Since the keyhole is not visible in the images, it could come with keyless ignition and seat access as standard features. Yamaha might offer a TFT instrument cluster with multiple advance connectivity features.

If we talk about Yamaha’s global electric two-wheeler line-up, it retails the Neo e-scooter in the European markets with a range of 68 km on a full charge. In India, it has the EC 06 and Aerox E. Hence, this model could be presented as a 125cc-equivalent model to further expand the brand’s EV portfolio. Though details are scarce at the moment regarding the launch timeline of this new Yamaha electric scooter.
