The Vietnamese brand has filed the design patent of the Viper electric scooter and Sulad concept-based electric motorcycle in the Indian market
Vinfast, the Vietnam-based pure EV brand, is all set to foray into the two-wheeler segment in the Indian market. The company had earlier stated that it will launch multiple electric scooters in our country in the second half of 2026. It had even filed a design patent of the new-gen Viper electric scooter, which is likely to be the first Vinfast model to go on sale in India. Now, the Vietnamese brand has patented two more electric two-wheelers in our market in the form of the current-gen Viper e-scooter and a new motorcycle.
First things first, the design patent of the Vinfast electric motorcycle reveals it to be a model based on the Sulad concept which was unveiled earlier this year by the brand. The technical specs of the Vinfast Sulad-based electric bike have not been disclosed. However, a few reports from Vietnam indicate that it will house a 50 kW electric motor which will ensure a top speed of 130 kmph.
Coming to the Viper electric scooter, it gets five-spoke alloy wheels, 3 kW hub-mounted electric motor and 4.8 kWh battery pack. Apart from the Viper, Vinfast is also expected to launch Evo and Feliz e-scooters in the Indian market. All these electric scooters are currently on sale in Vietnam and they will be sold as CKD (completely knocked down) units in India with local assembly at the brand’s factory in Thoothukudi (Tuticorin), Tamil Nadu.
Vinfast Viper, being a premium electric scooter, comes equipped with 14-inch wheels as compared to the 12-inch wheel setup of the Evo. The maximum range for the Viper is pegged at 156 km. The Viper maxi-styled electric scooter is sold at a price tag of 45,500,000 VND which is nearly Rs 1.63 lakh in India. It could be the brand’s flagship offering in India against Vida V2, Ola S1 Pro Plus, Ather 450 Apex, and TVS iQube ST.
As for Vinfast Evo, it is powered by twin 2.4 kWh LFP battery packs which are linked to a hub-mounted electric motor. It is priced at 22,800,000 VND in Vietnam which roughly translates to approx Rs 81,000 in the Indian market, as per the foreign exchange rate presently. Hence, the Evo could be a decent budget-friendly alternative to the likes of Bajaj Chetak C25, Hero Vida VX2 and TVS Orbiter. The range and top speed are rated at 134 km and 70 kmph, respectively.
Vinfast is also said to be developing purpose-built India-specific electric scooters. A few months back, it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government of Tamil Nadu to acquire around 200 hectares of land at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Thoothukudi to expand the existing production plant for the local manufacturing of electric scooters.
