Ultraviolette Set To Expand Production Capacity Before Tesseract Launch

Ultraviolette is gearing up to increase its production capacity to 1.5 lakh units before the launch of the Tesseract electric scooter

The long awaited Tesseract is nearing its launch next year. Ultraviolette Automotive is preparing for a major expansion of its manufacturing capacity to meet the anticipated demand of the scooter. The Bengaluru-based electric two-wheeler maker currently operates on a relatively small scale, but that is expected to change as it gets ready to introduce the Tesseract electric scooter.

The immediate focus is on increasing capacity at its existing facility. Ultraviolette currently makes around 500-600 vehicles a month, but this is expected to rise to approximately 5,000 units per month once the second production line is added. That is a significant jump for a company that has largely been associated with premium, low-volume electric motorcycles so far.

The bigger expansion will come with a new manufacturing facility. Ultraviolette has announced plans for a plant with an annual production capacity of 1.5 lakh units. The investment is part of the company’s larger expansion plans and should give it enough headroom to scale up production once its newer products start reaching customers.

The Tesseract is central to these plans. The electric scooter has already attracted more than 70,000 bookings, according to the company, and is expected to become Ultraviolette’s first genuine volume product. Unlike the F77 and X47, which operate in more premium niches, the Tesseract is aimed at a much larger audience. That also means the company will need to be prepared for a very different scale of demand.

The scooter itself has undergone significant engineering changes since it was first showcased. Ultraviolette has moved it to a new 100V electrical architecture, which is expected to improve performance and charging capability. It will be offered with 3.5 kWh, 5 kWh and 6 kWh battery options, with the largest version claiming a range of up to 261 km. Deliveries are now expected to begin in early 2027.

For Ultraviolette, the capacity expansion comes at an important point in its journey. There is already a large order book that is pending for the Tesseract. Going forward, there will be more products that Ultraviolette will need to introduce in the lower affordable segments if they wish to sell in volumes. That formula worked for Ather as well with the Rizta turning out to be a true winner.
