The newly-developed Ather EL platform will spawn several new models of various body types which will include a maxi-scooter, family scooter and high-performance scooter
We recently told you that Ather EL01, the brand’s first mass-market low-cost electric scooter, will break cover on Aug 29 at the Annual Community Day in Bengaluru. Now, in a major boost to Ather Energy, Hero MotoCorp – the world’s largest two-wheeler brand by retail volumes, has announced an additional investment of Rs 1,000 crore in the pure EV company. It will be an all-cash transaction and carried over in the next 15 days, once the final regulatory and shareholder approvals are secured by Ather Energy.
Hero already has a stake of 29.48 percent in Ather Energy on a fully diluted basis. Also, the Vida electric scooters use the Bengaluru-based electric two-wheeler brand’s fast-charging Ather Grid network. “The investment is being made in the form of subscription to additional Securities of Ather for up to ₹1,000 crore,” said Hero MotoCorp in its regulatory filings.
Ather Energy has been one of the fastest growing electric two wheeler companies in the last year. The Rizta and 450 range of e-scooters have ensured that it holds on to the third position behind TVS Motor Company and Bajaj Auto in terms of retail volumes. Now, with the new affordable EL01 scooter almost ready for a market launch, the company’s sales are likely to rise further as it will cater to the entry-level spectrum of customers.

Ravneet Singh Phokela, Chief Business Officer, Ather Energy, had confirmed a few months back that the EL01 will not be priced below Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom). He further went on to add that it will be priced lower than the current portfolio which has models like the Rizta and 450. For reference, Ather Rizta S, the brand’s entry-level e-scooter in India is sold at a price of Rs 1.17 lakh (ex-showroom, Bengaluru).
In Dec 2025, Ather Energy filed the design patent for the EL01 electric scooter. As per the patent images, it will ride on 14-inch front and 12-inch rear alloy wheels. The EL01 will come with a swingarm-mounted electric motor. The electric scooter will boast of a big LED DRL and LED tail-lamp cluster. Ather EL01 will be the first company model to get the Advanced Electronic Braking System (AEBS).

It will be presented with an onboard charger, termed as Ather Charge Drive Controller, for the convenience of the customers. Running on the latest AtherStack 7.0, Ather EL01 will come with voice commands as standard. The design patent hinted at the inclusion of a 7-inch instrument console with TFT display. Presently, Ather Rizta is offered with 2.9 kWh and 3.7 kWh batteries for an IDC range of 123 km and 159 km, respectively. It is quite possible that both these batteries with identical range will also make their way in the EL01.
