Ather Voice Commands Introduced on 450X, 450 Apex and Rizta Z

The owners of the 450X, 450 Apex and Rizta Z will be able to use ‘Voice on Ather’ feature through an over-the-air (OTA) update

Ather Energy has silently rolled out the voice command feature for its Gen 3 and above scooters in the Indian market. Tarun Mehta – CEO & Founder of Ather Energy termed the voice command functionality as the “Future of all interfaces on a two wheeler” in a lengthy note posted from his official account on micro-blogging platform X (formerly Twitter). Christened as ‘Voice on Ather’, it was announced at the brand’s Annual Community Day in Aug 2025 as it works with the Halo smart helmet and other bluetooth compatible headsets.

Rolled out under the AtherStack 7 update, it allows the riders to connect with their Ather electric scooter through simple voice commands, identical to Google Assistant or Apple’s Siri. The owners of the 450X, 450 Apex and Rizta Z will be able to use ‘Voice on Ather’ feature through an over-the-air (OTA) update. However, it will not be available with 450S and Rizta S at the moment.

“Using LLMs and natural language processing and bundling that inside our smart helmets (Halo) we believe that being able to ‘just tell’ your scooter what you want can be super intuitive. In fact far more intuitive than stationary applications like mobile phones, laptops etc. On a scooter you can’t operate touch while riding and we would rather have you glance as little as possible when in heavy traffic or at high speeds. Being able to just tell your Ather what you want, especially inside the cocoon of your helmet (or on any bluetooth headset really) is a significant tech and experience upgrade for riders,” wrote Mehta on X.

The riders can use ‘Voice on Ather’ to access navigation and vehicle settings, while calls can also be made as it is fully integrated with your existing contact list. In addition, the owners can control the media through voice commands like “Play the next song” and “Pause”. Ather is presently working on the next upgrade which will be in the form of two-way interaction as the rider and scooter will be able to communicate with each other.

Mehta further stated that Ather was the first all-electric brand to offer touchscreen systems on 2Ws. As of today, almost half of the company’s e-scooters are shipped with a touch TFT and 100 percent are shipped with on-board compute and connectivity. “Next upgrade (soon) as your Ather will talk and recommend things to you. Alerts, suggestions, feedbacks – proactively,” concluded Mehta.
