The electric two-wheeler industry witnessed massive YoY growth in May 2026 due to the rising fuel prices and hence, more buyers opting for EVs
The electric two-wheeler industry in India registered YoY growth of 63 percent in May 2026 with around 1.71 lakh units sold as compared to 1.05 lakh units sold during the same month last year. The e2w industry also grew on a MoM basis as 1.57 lakh units were sold in April 2026. The two-wheeler segment accounted for 63 percent of the overall EV sales in May 2026. While TVS contined to lead the electric two-wheeler segment, Bajaj, Ather and Hero (Vida) sales also grew handsomely on a YoY basis in May 2026.
Starting with TVS, it posted 64 percent YoY growth with sales increasing from 25,804 units in May 2025 to 42,415 units in May 2026. The Hosur-based two-wheeler brand continued to maintain its market share of 25 percent. TVS retails three electric scooters in the Indian market in the form of the iQube, X and Orbiter. It also has plans to roll out electric motorcycles for India in near future.
Bajaj Auto sold 39,142 Chetak scooters in May 2026 with a YoY growth of 73 percent. The brand had retailed 22,643 units in May 2025. It held on to its market share of 23 percent in the electric two-wheeler segment. This was the company’s second highest monthly sales after it had sold 47,733 units in March 2026. The Pune-based two-wheeler company is likely to launch new models in the Chetak EV range in FY27.

Ather Energy doubled its YoY sales in May 2026 in the domestic market. The retail volumes increased 28,211 units last month as compared to 14,101 units sold during May 2025. The market share stood at 17 percent in the electric two-wheeler segment. Needless to mention, the Rizta remained to be its best-selling and most popular model as the company was able to post its second highest monthly sales after March 2026 (36,333 units).
Hero’s electric arm Vida sold 19,051 units electric scooters in May 2026 with a YoY growth of nearly 166 percent as the company had retailed 7,385 units in May 2025. This was the highest YoY growth rate among leading electric two-wheeler brands in the country. For the first time, Hero’s market share reached double-digits (11 percent) in the e2w segment. The Vida VX2 continued to witness higher demand due to its affordable pricing.

Last but not the least, Ola Electric is on its path to recovery on a MoM basis as the company sold 15,141 units in May 2026. However, the YoY numbers were still down by 20 percent as the brand had retailed 18,967 units in May 2025. The market share was also in single digit at 9 percent as compared to 18 percent in May 2025. The Bengaluru-based EV startup is gradually improving the sales volumes and it is likely to gain momentum in the coming months.
