Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 India Launch Later This Year

The brand has commenced work on the Himalayan 440 which will be positioned between the Scram 440 and Himalayan 450 in RE portfolio in India

Royal Enfield is working on the Himalayan 440, which is slated to launch in the second half of 2026 in the Indian market. Internally codenamed as D4G, it will be the spiritual successor to the Himalayan 411 which was discontinued in late 2023 after the arrival of Himalayan 450. Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 would be positioned between Scram 440 and Himalayan 450 while expected to be priced around 2.50-2.70 lakh (ex-showroom). The ADV bike will use the same platform and engine as the Scram 440, but styling will be inspired by the Himalayan 411.

Royal Enfield currently has four engine platforms at the helm. However, except the 443cc single-cylinder long-stroke engine, all the other engine platforms spawn multiple motorcycles. The 443cc single-cylinder long-stroke engine powers only the Scram 440 and hence, the company is planning to roll out another model on this engine platform.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 411 had a special place in the hearts of adventure motorcycling community due to its rugged character and affordable pricing. Even short heighted riders liked the bike because of the lower saddle height (800 mm). On the other hand, the Himalayan 450, which replaced the Himalayan 411, is more advanced, upmarket and packs more features. However, the saddle height is higher and it costs a lot more than its predecessor.

Hence, at least on the paper, Royal Enfield is exactly looking to address these things. Hence, we can expect the upcoming Himalayan 440 to have a relatively lower seat height while being highly affordable than the Himalayan 450. It is not likely to pack multiple premium features, except the switchable ABS and Tripper navigation pod. The Himalayan 440 will miss out on ride modes and traction control.

The overall design will be heavily influenced by the original Himalayan 411, albeit with premium colours and modern graphics. The same LED headlamp setup is likely to be offered with the upcoming adventure bike, as we see in the latest RE motorcycles. The suspension travel is going to be longer while it will ride on 21-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels, which are shod with tubed dual-purpose tyres.

The cross-spoke wheels with tubeless tyres will not be available with the Himalayan 440 as they will take away the affordability factor. At the heart, the 443cc single-cylinder air/oil-cooled engine from the Scram 440 will be carried over with a 6-speed gearbox. The power and torque figures are likely to be identical at 25.4 bhp and 34 Nm, respectively.
