The EL01 low-cost mass-market family electric scooter will debut Advanced Electronic Braking System (AEBS) in the Indian market
Ather Energy unveiled the low-cost EL platform at its Annual Community Day in Aug 2025. The company had revealed that this platform will spawn multiple electric scooters of different body types, including a family scooter, a maxi scooter and a high-performance scooter. In fact, the Ather EL01 concept was also presented at the event as the brand’s mass-market budget-friendly electric scooter. Now, the Bengaluru-based EV startup has filed the design patent of the upcoming e-scooter in the Indian market.
The leaked images of the production version look identical to the working prototype showcased at the Ather Community Day. The design patent further reveals that the EL01 will ride on 14-inch front and 12-inch rear alloy wheels. It will get a new electric motor which will be mounted on the swingarm. The low-cost family e-scooter is slated to launch next year in the Indian market.
The patent makes it clear that Ather has not made any changes in the EL01 concept, except for the mirrors. The overall design is quite simple and minimalistic with a big LED DRL and LED tail-lamp cluster being the prominent elements. Though it’s not visible clearly in the patent images, the brand is likely to carry the 7-inch instrument console with TFT display.
Ather Energy has confirmed that the EL01 e-scooter will come with an onboard charger and Advanced Electronic Braking System (AEBS). In addition, the new platform ensures quicker assembly due to less number of components. The service interval will also be longer at 10,000 km while the periodic servicing will also be two times faster than other Ather scooters.
The introduction of an onboard charger, christened as Ather Charge Drive Controller, will eliminate the need of carrying a portable charger. It will be offered with AtherStack 7.0, the latest version of the software, which introduces voice commands along with an array of modern features. It will be locally produced at the brand’s new factory in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
Ather EL01 price is expected to be below the Rs 1 lakh mark. The company currently retails two electric scooters in the form of the Rizta and 450. While the Rizta is a family scooter, the 450 is a sporty electric scooter. Both these e-scooters have been performing really well in terms of sales volumes and Ather has climbed up to the third spot in the list of top 10 electric two-wheeler brands in India.
