Suzuki Access CNG Debuts at 2025 Japan Mobility Show

The Access CNG is introduced with a 6 litre CNG tank underneath the seat besides the conventional petrol tank of 2 litres

Suzuki Access CNG has made its global debut at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show. It is the second CNG-powered scooter that we have come across in recent times as TVS too had showcased a similar version of the Jupiter earlier this year at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo in New Delhi. Besides the Access CNG, Suzuki displayed a wide range of alternate fuel vehicles at the auto show in Tokyo, including the hydrogen-powered Burgman 400 prototype. Suzuki Access is one of the most popular scooters in India and the company is likely to launch its all-electric version next month in the country.

Coming back to the Access CNG, it can run on both Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Compressed Biomethane Gas (CBG). Boasting dual tanks for petrol and CNG fuels, it has an estimated range of 170 km. While the 6 litre CNG tank is positioned under the seat with a nozzle, the petrol tank is placed traditionally with fueling via the external filler.

Design-wise, Suzuki Access CNG is identical to the standard version of the scooter as it gets the same LED headlamp, flat floorboard, cubbyholes in front apron, and digital instrument cluster. However, the underseat storage area that we have in the conventional ICE-powered model makes way for the CNG fuel tank. Suzuki further says that it will be heavier by 10 percent as compared to the regular petrol-powered scooter.

It is too early to comment on the launch timeline of the Access CNG as the company has not been able to launch the Access EV yet, despite showing it nearly a year back in the country. In fact, it will be interesting to see whether the R&D prototype enters production and hits the roads or it remains a fancy concept model and never sees the light of day.

Meanwhile, Suzuki also showcased a scale model of India-based biogas plant where it produces compressed biogas through dairy waste. The company has partnered with leading dairy cooperatives like Banas and Amul for this energy and fertiliser project. The scale model shows how dairy waste can be converted into renewable energy through localised production while reducing emissions.

Suzuki Biogas Plant

Suzuki has announced plans to set up nine biogas plants in the Indian state of Gujarat by 2027. Suzuki has a production facility in Hansalpur in Gujarat where its Indian subsidiary, Maruti Suzuki, develops the all-electric e-Vitara SUV. These biogas factories are expected to play a key role in Suzuki’s mission of achieving global carbon neutrality.
