Can the new-gen Pulsars arrest Bajaj’s falling sales..?

Sales Analysis for July 2022

  • Hero MotoCorp lost around 80,000 units sacrificing almost 4 percent market share.
  • Honda was relatively better placed with a deficit of around 15,000 units. And owing to Hero’s fall, it actually garnered almost a 1.5 percent market share.
  • TVS‘ sales remained flat but it gained almost 2 percent market share and these three continue to form the top three sellers list.
  • Bajaj was the biggest loser here with a drop of almost 45,000 units. Its market share by almost 3 percent.
  • Suzuki was down by about 3000 units and its market share remained flat.
  • Yamaha triumphed over Royal Enfield with an (minor) increase in sales – the only maker to do so among the top seven. As a result, it crossed that market share figure of 4 percent.

WHAT IS ‘V-TWIN’, ‘STROKE’, ‘VALVE’? BIKE JARGON EXPLAINED

  • Royal Enfield registered a drop of around 2000 units but held onto its market share of slightly under 4 percent.
  • Among the smaller players, Classic Legends is finding it difficult to grow, despite the introduction of Yezdi. It seems stuck at that 2000-4000 sales mark. In terms of numbers, it gained a few units along with a very minor market share increment.
  • Piaggio – which sells the Vespa and Aprilia branded scooters in India – also witnessed a drop in both – sales as well as market share.

With a slew of launches planned by almost all the makers listed above, expect better numbers in the coming months, right till the festive season. With TVS convincingly cementing its position over Bajaj in the domestic market, the most interesting battle in now at the top. Note that the difference between Hero and Honda fell from almost 1.24 Lac units in July 2021 to under 60,000 units last month. Can Honda turn the tide it is so desperate about…?

Note – Above listed numbers are compiled through official VAHAN data and represent the actual registrations that have taken place across 1334 RTOs in India (out of 1409 RTOs). They do not have data from AP, MP, TS and LD.
