Here comes another upgrade for all the Karizma fans. As usual, the major changes are only cosmetic. This is nothing new from Hero Honda, they have been doing that for all their bikes. But this definitely helps push people to go ahead and book the Karizma, if they had almost decided but were reluctant to take the final step. Though we dislike this attitude, it keeps coming back because of 1 reason – it works!

Changes in 2011 Karizma R…

  • The bike has new paint shades, new stickers on the tank and front half fairing
  • New engine cowl
  • Clear lens indicators
  • Side reflectors
  • Meter console in different color.
  • Black colored alloy foot peg side set
  • Black colored rear swing arm
  • Black colored chain cover
  • Red colored spark plug cap

One more change that is made by Hero Honda in this new upgrade is the engine. Hero Honda Karizma R gets a Bharat Stage III (BSIII) engine.

The company says that the new engine has got “ASFS” tech but the torque is exactly same as in the older model. However, the bike gets a maintenance free battery.

Now you may ask yourself;  Is that what you call a upgrade? Well, it’s the Hero Honda style of saying the automobile market that they are still there. The new 2011 Karizma comes in two new colors viz. force silver and white.

Hero Honda’s flagship brand was giving a great image to the company for nearly a decade. But now other bikes such as CBR250R have stolen the limelight. Hero Honda may find it difficult to launch a 250cc bike because they are terminating the relationship with Honda by 2014. And after that, it may be just too late to compete. No one can predict the future of Hero Honda. But we will have a good time silently watching the sales charts and “new launches”. 🙂

        Besides, which other brand will people of India expect something really beautiful or radical than the biggest motorcycle maker of the world! And look what are they giving us!

    I think the biggest use of this strategy is, service center guys need not upgrade their knowledge. Just remove the various stickers and beneath, they will be working on things they did from last 3-4 years. 😀
    Customer feels he is having pro, ++, new whatever. Whereas others are bringing new Size, shape, dynamics etc.
    Hero took motorcycle market along with Honda, now, They might take stationary business for stickers and color business for shades. Possibly Hero-Camel or Hero-Asian. 😀 😀

    Dont fix what is not broken seems to be their policy! This is the worlds largest manufacturer of 2 wheelers!

    any way with hoda tie up at end, hero has to develop its own tech or find a new partner, until then no new engines!

    great time for Bajaj to up the ante and take the advantage of this situation

    Who said Hero’s R&D is useless??? I still remember owning a Hero Ranger Swing (One with 18 Gears) when I was 12 Yrs old. It was amazing all other Bi-Cycle manufacturers at that time were hugely disappointed. So Hero please launch a Ranger Swing + or Pro for Kids, they are waiting.

    Karizma launched in 2003 is still the most stylish and most sporty bike in India. The engine is powered by dirt track bike of Honda and is the most torquey in the segment. Honda’s 15bh is more than Bajaj’s 20bhp !!!!!!!!!!!1

    P220 DTSFi which was launched to rival Karizma with lots of fanfare and many world’s/India’s first….
    simply lost steam within one year with hell of issues, RTO also issued notice to Bajaj to improve or discontinue as it failed pollution norms. Somehow Senior Bajaj (MP, Rajya Sabha pushed the sales of bikes) It’s first time in the world that an Fi system on a bike failed BS-II norms, whereas Fi worldwide passes off BS-III comfortably.

    I wish goodluck to people comparing imitation products with original product !!

        Its a Fact that other bikes ( R15, FZ, Apache, P220 ) have Efficient Engines,
        But Karizma fans buy it ( including me ) b’cause they love this bike…. Thats it !

        Now come to Engine,
        Honda 223cc Engine Producing 17bhp has proven its Reliability and Strength again ‘n’ again, n NO BIKE has a better handling than this
        Thats y only 2 bikes r choosen for long trips, even for extreme place like ladakh ( Bullet n Karizma )

        n Guys Even Karizma fans wants it to be upgraded, WE r not against it !!

      Hi Seshadri82, it is not the HH Karizma people are, whatever. It is the strategy of launching same product with useless upgrades (someone above rightly said, not upgrade but grade).
      Just think if the upgrade had:
      1. 250/+ cc engine.
      2. Torque/RPM advantage.
      3. Tubeless tyres,
      etc.. then who would have resented.

      Yes, but now HH is going the Bajaj way. The way Bajaj brought different models of cc in the same name of Pulsar. HH are bringing in different models in the names of their successful bikes. This strategy never worked with Bajaj as only Pulsar 150 was a hit and now its market has been saturated. I believe Yamaha is the pioneer in terms of bikes as of now. However, its bikes are on the higher side but they do put in the real goods like Bullet does. These two bike companies never compromise on their price, no matter what and neither do they compromise on the quality of their stuff.

    Karizma is a great bike from hero honda, but they are indirectly insulting or degrading it by this sort of senseless upgrades, world is drastically changing why are’nt they concerned about it??? The quality and reliability of their bikes is awe-inspiring but we dont actually seek only quality and reliability all the time, do we???

      Why see it as a serious upgrade in first place ??? it’s the same Karizma with additional features. Only companies which produces products with issues keep upgrading every year. To me Karizma has not been upgraded but just added features.
      Pulsar has been upgraded a 6-7 times, but still lacks refinement/handling is still pretty bad, suspension is just an eye wash and is worst in the market.
      R15 cannot be compared with Karizma as it is a mini sports bike for young hearts, Karizma is for quality commuting and touring.

    I don’t think hero honda is going to follow the same strategy. Many top automobile companies in World are looking in to India and other developing countries because of the rapid increase in market. We enthusiasts are sharing same view about hero future and a dominant player in automobile sector will definitely know better than us. Just wait and see, Hero will be back with another mega collaboration. I am not HH fan but i am aware of how marketing will do wonders. Hero are best at marketing and with another collaboration, they will definitely set sales chart on fire.

    Everybody (including me) are bashing Hero Honda, but see its sales figures, they are touching the stars, AND WHY ARE WE IGNORING THE UPGRADES OF PULSAR???? what about their quality??? Do not think and decide with hot head, think practically, is there any other bike which can compete Karizma in all aspects, (durability, style, comfort, handling maintenance etc etc). I realise it lacks power, but what does pulsar do with power??? We cannot rely on the bike, after 2 years its a lump of metal. TVS Apache is a better bike than pulsar, but its not suitable for tall people and vibrations make the ride uncomfortable. In my opinion, the real biking is not the rocket-like pick up or top speed, its kind of relationship between man and machine, like a rider and a horse!! No offence brothers, This is just what I think, correct me if I am wrong coz I am planning to buy new Karizma!!

      One thing I would like to mention is HH Karizma is a good nike in terms of Durability, comfort or reliability. A few years back it was the best man can get in India. But as time has changed HH should have upgraded it accordingly. As they failed to do so it is no longer the best in the lot. Now tthe scenario is – if you want power, new technology, value for money and good feature set go to bajaj stable and try to forget about the engine refinement, reliability for some time. Now if you want durability, or reliability or good resale value or mileage rush towards the HH dealer and try to forget about getting awesome power, great technology and sort of things.
      Another thing is Speed and thrill attracts some, some looks for comfortable cruising, whereas some may just want a machine to go from point A to point B in a lowcost way. Thats why we have different kinds of bikes.
      If you want to go for Karizma just go for it as long as it meets your requirements completely. There is no wright or wrong in choosing a bike. Only requirements matter.

As I am shredding 80 to 90 thousand Quid, I want my bike to be smooth, reliable, which does not become a pain in my a** after few years, as far technology is concerned, yeaaaah, karizma lacks in technology but I am not so much bothered about it coz I feel, all those technology is worthless unless its practical!!! Anyway, thanks pal, I made my decision!!!

    Hero Honda is dead! This is not any bias, believe me! From and above 150cc segments hero honda is just making fun of itself. They have either forgotten time has changed or incapable of doing something updated. The below 150cc segment is alive for them which has too become immensely boring.

    My suggestion to HH : Go for cycle business, it saves fuel and irritation for the bike lovers.

    hi everyboday, no doubt that karizma is a nice premium sector bike but it lacks some latest upgrades like digital meter, rear disc breaks and many more although the new stickers are fantastic but i think more technology upgradation is needed just adding asfs engine won’t be called as proper upgradation……….nywyz i m waiting for the new cbz xtreme upgrade hope they add digital meter and improved fuel efficient engine like honda unicorn…… launch it soon

    HH policy is very clear. They says that if u want anything like tube-less tires, rear disk break, digital console and so on…just pay extra 20-25k and u wiil get ZMR!

    These all features are available (in Unicorn dazzler and HUNK) for only extra 4-5 k Rs.!
    Still Karizma is good bike in terms of price and power.

    for the Guys are confuse and seeking advice which bike they should buy….
    Grow up buddy….make your own choice. When your are coming for 200 plus CC segment, you must have good experience of riding of 100-125 cc segment bikes and as well as good knowledge of bikes and its technology. After that only you can judge correctly, which bikes suits you most……. High segments are for those people having passion for bike, not just for riding. Just check your passion and go through reviews of related models and find your self which is most suitable to satisfy you…….and also your spouse/g-friend too……

    hey, HH…If u really wants that ur Karizma R to be marketed without a fullstop. then never think of changing its design but u must increase its torque n add rear disc, tubeless tyres with rear one fatty, mono soc absorber, cliper handle, naked chain, digital console, ABS and rear soc absorber must increase it rear high…then it would make the bloody honda, yamaha etc in a thought…what to do for the sale of their bikes…:-)
