Yamaha Launches SZ-X & SZ 150cc

by Deepak on August 6, 2010

Yamaha seems to be on a rampage, or that is what it seems its intentions are! They launched two new bikes today. A 150cc bike under two variants called as SZ-X and SZ 150 and the bigger sibling of YBR, YBR 125 at shattering prices.

Yamaha SZ: SZ comes equipped with the same 4 stroke, SOHC 153cc mill which does duty on the bigger muscular FZ series; however under a different state of tune. The new engine now produces 12.1 PS of maximum power output in contrast to 14PS of the FZ series at the same rpm range of 7500.

Torque figures are also reduced to 12.8 Nm from …. However the torque peaks at 4500rpm in contrast to 6000 rpm of the FZ series signaling the concentration on the low and mid range.

Features:

  • Engine: 4 stroke 153cc SOHC Air Cooled
  • Power: 12.1PS @ 7500
  • Torque: 12.8Nm @ 4500
  • Weight: 133 Kgs
  • Ground Clearance: 165mm
  • Gearbox: 5 speed, 1 down 4 up
  • Brakes: Both front and rear Drum
  • Starter: Kick (for SZ 150) & Electric (for SZ-X)
  • Fuel tank capacity: 14L
  • Fantastic sculpted dual tail lights
  • Tyres: 17 inch 5 spoke cast wheels

SZ 150 is available in two colors; Red and Black and SZ-X is available in 3 color options; Black, Red and Metallic Grey.

The SZ 150 has been priced at a ground breaking price tag of Rs.49,000 and SZ-X with little more goodies is priced at Rs.52,000 (both prices ex showroom Delhi).

The new launches by Yamaha India, the SZ and the SZ-X looks like very good motorcycles. But looking at the pictures, I’m wondering if the bikes will be offered with Disc brakes at least as an option. It’ll be a great shame if Yamaha doesn’t offer discs(on a 150cc bike) notwithstanding the target customers.

No discs is a not so pleasant surprise.

A 150cc segment bike without disc brake, stylish handle, analog speedometer. I think this bike is not gonna maintain the success of FZ & R15.

Even disco 150 outputs more power than this….. But good choice fr yamaha lovers.

The bike needs optional front disc brake. Even disc brake option should be made available. Rear shocks should be gas-charged. I dont mind analog speed, as it reduces cost price. Analog/digital speedo does not change ride quality. But disc brakes and monoshock/gas-charged twin shock absorbers make difference to ride quality, so these two are required, at least option. Old unicorn has analog speedo, but honda charge same cost as digital speedo, which is very bad. Honda always overprice their product. If this Sz-X comes with disc brake and gas-charged shock absorber, i am ready to pay 5k to 6k extra. I would prefer yamaha SZ-x over unicorn or gs150r, because Sz-X is lighter and also cheaper. There is no difference in quality between yamaha, suzuki, and honda. All japanese and all global brands.

hi, what ever u said that fine but dear, if u want those things then that be be done in additional cost.. as u said u can afford then u can go with szx..

but dear u yamaha has lunched budget bike so, its cost low but there is no compromise in quality..
really very comfortable bike yar..

Give us front and rear disc brakes and gas-charged rear shock absorbers. Charge 7k to 8k extra. Many people would buy. Digital or analog speedo does not affect ride quality. So digital speedo can be neglected to keep price low. But having disc brakes and gas-charged shock absorber definitely improves ride quality. Add another 2k for digital speedo. Add another 2k for monoshock.

hey guy finally yamaha has lunched 150cc bike below 60k as they promise. FZ series cost is 70k + so it was cost but the qulity of that bike at sum extend worth it. As quality doesnt come cheaper.
but this SZ series bike is cheper with gud milege. Ya there is no front disc brake but it is having 150mm drum brake if front is also gud coz it is most powerful brake in drum brake segmentn and no other copany has use such a powerful drum brake thy used upto 130mm drum brake.

so for me it is very exciting and nice handling bike. i have used yamaha gladiator 125 and its duel rear socker is very comfortable so i belive in SZ bikes also have comfortable socker, which dint make feel tired as bajaj pulsar, honda unicon or hero honda hunk-cbz.

M defenity go for SZ-X coz yamaha always lunch younger blood bikes and i i like bike with profermace, power, pick up, handling and controling and milage to and this bike SZ-x give me all. i had took test drive of the SZ-X …

Very gud bike in 150cc segment, it will rock the market of bike..

@Antony

And you’ll get FZ if you add so much. Which is what Yamaha doesn’t want again…
