We Ask Suzuki India About Gixxer 250 and This is What They Said…

One motorcycle which was sorely missed at the Auto Expo was the speculated quarter liter from Suzuki. At the show, we spoke to Mr Suresh Babu, National Head, Product Planning and Development, Suzuki Motorcycle India, and asked him about the Gixxer 250/GSX-R250!

While he did not say a direct yes but neither did he rule out the motorcycle. These were his exact words…

“We will launch when the time is right. We are not saying we will never, but when the time is right for us, we will launch.”

Not much is known about the expected motorcycle which may be sold under the Gixxer brand. Gixxer 250, if it is ultimately called as may be restricted to a single-cylinder set-up with heavy localisation to compete against the CBR250R, RC200 and others.

But we believe, if they plan to use the GSX-R250 moniker they may make a twin, possibly a derivative of the 248 cc parallel twin engine from the infamous Inazuma which produces 26 bhp of maximum power and 24.2 Nm of peak torque. While the Inazuma was a tourer centric motorcycle, a faired sports oriented bike using the same mill may hopefully get a different tune with a higher output.

Things for Suzuki India started delivering with the launch of the very potent Gixxer range which comprises of a naked and a sports bike in the 150 cc segment. They have recently unveiled the fuel injected version of the same engine and expanding their lineup to the 250 cc will broaden their market here. As we said, not much is known about the 250cc Suzuki apart from a few spyshots of a motorcycle which is suspected to be it!

A rendering of Gixxer 250/GSX-R250 was also shared by VisorDown from a reputable Japanese magazine which further keeps the hopes alive. Now, we just have to wait for “the time” which Suzuki says will be right for them!
