TVS Star City Review

by Deepak on October 5, 2008

TVS Star City is also known to be the tidy handler on the roads just like other bikes from TVS and it offers decent handling traits and ride character within its segment. Bike riders will find the bike in an upright and commuter-friendly posture. The rectangular section swing arm is another good thing that continues even in Star City. Riders of the Star City can adjust the rear shock absorber through a convenient lever and it doesn’t require additional tools. The major improvements of Star City are the aerodynamic shape, front faring, new-age graphics, sporty silencer and Roller Cam Follower (RCF) technology for improved mileage.

tvs star city

Star City is a good-looking machine in its segment with pleasing dual tone appearance. The new bike replaced the clumsy-looking chrome metal mudguards with attractive modern plastic units. The tube metal grab handle is replaced by a dandy alloy bit. The silencer of the Star City is modified where in there is a new heat shield.

This stylish and elegant Star City comes in four attractive colors; the flaming red, midnight black, purple and greenish gray all of them the metrosexual colors. The seating position in Star City is so good even for an above average height person and equally comfortable seating for the pillion.

The basic blue backlit instruments are easy to decipher. Star city comes with comprehensive switches that include a pass light switch and a push to cancel indicators. Other features include the tall TVS trademark mirrors, quality plastics and rubber parts, cool palm grips and decent control levers.

The main difference between the Star City and the Star Sport include a new face-lifted silencer in the sport, with sleeker body panels and tail lamps that gives it more elegant appearance. Additionally, the fuel tank of Star Sport is also sleeker with double toned side panel that make it look attractive. TVS Star Sport also features 5-spoked alloy wheels, fuel gauge and three colors- silver, black and blue.

TVS Star city is a new 110cc CVTi engine with VTi technology A few important tweaks have been done to the 4-stroke and air-cooled 99.7cc single overhead camshaft-driven motor. Engine is sturdy and the bike delivers 7.5bhp at 7500rpm. The kerb weight of the vehicle is 108kg and the major changes made on the bike include a keihin carburetor as well as adding on roller rocker-arm followers. The gearbox internals however, remain unchanged and all up gearshifts are smooth. Switch to a healthier exhaust note is another change made on the bike and the cable-controlled clutch enables the right level of progression and weight to a rider. The improved motor makes it to ride effortlessly from low speeds in high gears.

It has fairly conventional suspension with a brace of telescopic front forks in the front and rear hydraulic twin shock absorbers. Another improvement in Star City is braking and it also excels in the mileage. Even in heavy city traffic, stoplights and potholed road situations, it provides about 60kmpl and on the highways it gives about 65kmpl. The bright halogen-powered headlamp makes the night riding relaxed and effortless.

Finally, it can be said that Indian bike riders are offered the right stuff by TVS in this Star City. Star City in fact is competent in its soft spoken and slick-shifting motor, plush suspension set-up and also fuel economy according to the review. It also has the features such as snazzier style with more frills to boot. All of these features make the Star City a city star in its segment. Priced at Rs. 38,000 Star City it is an economy bike delivering par economy comforts.

HI this is the bhakta from Bangalore,
I purchased TVS Star City on 22nd Aug 2008, really it is a very smooth and good bike, before first service the bike was a little bit late pick up after 2nd service really the bike had good pick within 10 to 15 sec we can reach 80 speed, the millage is giving nearly 72 per lit after 5th services from first it was giving me the same millage even now it is giving us almost 72 to 75 per lit, and even my bike after 11,500 km the performance is very smooth and comfortable really those who are interested in economy they can go for Star City 110 cc easily without any problem. The cost when I purchased it was 45,000 ex-showroom now it is 44,000 with self start and alloy wheels.

thank you

J.Babu August 19, 2011 at 9:12 pm

Bought the TVS Star during its launch in 2005. Stil going well with and not even changed headlight bulb, clutch cables, front brake cables, sprockets and chain. Mileage is aroung 70 km in long and 65 km in city. Most reliable and is very suitable for hills with great pickup, stability while cornering. Can run non stop even in heavy rain with no starting problem. I used to visit the hill station near Coimbatore (TN) very often and so far no break downs has occured. Congrulate TVS for bringing such a quality bike.

vinod November 17, 2011 at 5:53 pm

pls tell me your experience and details your model

sandeep September 4, 2011 at 11:25 am

I have the bike at home since 7 years now and it is still as smooth as butter. The mileage is still > 70 and there has been just one battery change on my own cost till date on the name of maintenance.
Good styling and color options
Great mileage
Great riding position for tall people.
Best handling in the streets

Lacks the Fifth gear
Hard to go over 80 Km/hr speeds
Has an analog speedometer

Vikram Shirsat September 4, 2011 at 1:54 pm

it is very smooth bike & good looking so. now in the market other bikes are also not good. it is 100% Indian bike for indian bad roads. it is more comfertable than other bikes due to its seat & hight. average is not much more but 65 to 68 is quit satisfactory. new black & silver colour is amezing.. It is really STAR BIKE. If u real biker then u should choos only & only YAMAHA Rx-100 b coz this bike is exclusively made for Dare davils & bike lovers.

I own the TVS Star from 2005. Running well till now, without any major problem. Mileage is around 60 to 70 km, no starting problem. Major drawback is poor resale value, Planning to buy Honda CB Shine.

R Sai Srinivas January 4, 2012 at 8:00 am

The best bike below 125cc is the absolutely the TVS Star City 110 and no other company has place.

R Sai Srinivas January 4, 2012 at 8:01 am

I specially thank TVS for not keeping 5th gear since for an engine below 125cc, 5th gear is nothing more nuisance per km in city traffic.

Sen K Mathew June 1, 2012 at 2:00 pm

Hi to All
I have one TVS Star City Alloy wheel 100cc. When I Purchased it in the year 2006, Company offered around 80-85km/litre. It gave me that mileage. But after When I changed the Chain and Sprocket Mileage came down to 58km/Litre.
I checked it and found that The Original Chain and Sproket had 14 T(On Small Wheel and 40 Teeth on Big Wheel). Company stopped Producing this and they are giving 13T on small wheen and 41 T on Big Wheel that means I am losing arounf 1/2 to 3/4 rotation. I lost arounf 12- 15 km / Litre. Any one knows where I can get the Correct Chain and SProcket( 14T/40T). I am loosing too much money on Petrol. I am not intrested in Pickup or fast driving. what I want is mileage. Other Performance of TVS Star City
1. HeadLight – Excellent
2. Pick up – Ok for me
3. Mileage Previously -Excellent – I got around 80-85. but now very bad.
4. Seating – Excellent.
5. Engine Sound – bad.
6. Cold Start – No Problem.
7. Servicing Centers- Very bad performance. Service people are bad.
Moreover. I covered around 1,55,000 Km (now it is 1,63, 355 km) without Engine overhauling.
Secret Behind is nothing but changing engine oil for every 2750-3000km.
Running between 55-70km/hour without unnecessarly raising the engine.
