TVS Scooty Streak

by Deepak on January 20, 2009

The buzzword in colleges today is TVS Scooty Streak. Super styling is what I could say when I had that first glance of the newly launched TVS Scooty Streak. This unisex styled Scooty Streak is positioned to seize the 100cc plus scooters’ market share including the Suzuki Access, Honda Aviator and the Kinetic Flyte.

TVS Scooty Streak

The looks of the scooter are more or less retained the same as basic TVS Scooty. It will have the same double body and that distinctive snout in front too. Still Scooty Streak has many features to woo the metrosex scooter riders. The mobile charger would be one with a glove box that’s big enough and lockable. Scooty Streak also comes with skid-resistant wide tyres, so driving on wet and slick roads too could be far from fear.

TVS Scooty Streak

TVS tweaked the shock absorption and gave the Scooty Streak total aluminum absorbers to give that bump-free ride on crater-filled city roads. I liked the seat contour architecture and consider it as one WOW feature in the new Scooty Streak. Sit on it and let me know if you didn’t get a feel of sitting on a bike. Then the headlamp is tweaked to give it a sharp look and the blinkers are now triangle shaped and look as if they are for new age; pretty cool. The tail lamps are fitted with LEDs, so your battery is going to last for long for sure. Both the mirrors are fitted into body-colored frames so will have more appeal. The footboard is flat and comfortable. However, you need to get down if you have to pump in the fuel into your Scooty Streak as the fuel tank is put on rear side.

TVS Scooty Streak

Then comes the engine part. TVS Scooty Streak sports a novel LiTech engine. If you wonder what it means, well it makes it zippy zappy as well as light in weight implying that Scooty Streak engine will give good economy of petrol; probably the best in class scooter with respect to fuel efficiency.

TVS Scooty Streak Blue

The new TVS Scooty Streak is priced around Rs. 36,000 ex-showroom and will surely make the rivals rethink of price as well as the features. I don’t think that Suzuki Access or even Honda Aviator can appeal the trendy college youth. They certainly look bulky and gaudy and indeed they are heavy to handle as well. TVS’ fan following includes mostly the teen youth and Scooty Streak will tread the same path and will celebrate fanfare in colleges in the days to come. The new TVS Scooty Streak is launched in 5 colors; black, red, blue, pink and mauve. All of these will impress college youth.

I would any day prefer taking my girl on a Scooty to a Suzuki Access. In fact, it makes me look cool to sit behind when she rides one as well!

TVS scooters, and I guess they are unbeatable. The Scooty Streak is still more impressive with its great styling and cool looks. I hope it goes a long way!

And how good is the mileage of this one Deepak?

Deepak January 20, 2009 at 7:33 am

Khoushik, I have not tested the bike yet. I will update the mileage soon!

this new scooty looks good…
in pink it will still be a girly scooter but in blue it looks ok for guys….better choice than activa/access…coz they are bulky and big….activa/access are better for uncle…i hope they use guys in marketing…or if they use girls … then boys wont buy this scooty…i think this scooty can also compete with dio for the boy-scooter market…

I think the bike is cool but will have tough competition beating the Pleasure. Anyways when it comes to scooties i think Honda makes some awesome ones, specially the Aviator.

Reply

daksh January 23, 2009 at 12:28 pm

i think this particular model is “very” girlish..
considering the times of unisex, girls wudnt wanna opt for very very girly luks.
aviator and activa are a much much better option.. besides, this scooty will get torn apart in face of worse case scenerio.

Which of the two, the Scooty Pep+ and the Scooty Streak, would be a beter choice for a man in substantial trouble with arthritis?

It gives a mileage ranging for 35 to 50. Good Ride for boys.

I have purchased a TVS SCOOTY STREAK at last after weighing all pros and cons.
Till noe it is fine. I am, however yet to get used to it fully after having driven the geared Bajaj M-80 for aver 13.5 years. Carries my sister and myself with ease. And stands the test of Calcutta SMOOTH roads (lol) well enough.
BUT a strange thing happened : the ignition keys are BADLY built.
Beware!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The key BROKE INTO 2 PIECES as I was turning it (dont worry, I am an old man and a gentle handler)to open the underseat compartment.
I immediately inspected the broken pieses and found that the steel part is just loosely moulded to the plastic handle of the keys. I had a duplicated MADE by one of the KEY-MAKERS. it is working fine. Oh! there was a duplicate key too provided by the company. But who knows????
The bike is, otherwise satisfactory.

A strange thing!
The comment posted in the name of AAHISTHA, was actually written and posted by ME. How come this has happened? All the happenings about possessing an M-80, being able to ride with my sister, the bike’s keys getting broken, etc were contributed by me.
There is something very serious editing error.
Please be more careful in future.

Well AAhistha, I suppose it was inded a mistake on my part. I did not understand the format. The name appears first before the comment posted and I thought otherwise.
My humble apologies.
And Streak is good if you can use the ignition keys gently and if you can ignore the slightly jarring sound of the engine. It can double carry easily and so no issues on that.
All the best.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU (A BIT ADVANCE)

jarring sound as in/..?? is it too bad..? i dnt like too much noice..and u dint tell abt the millage part..? howz it..? n is it comfortable for mum as well..? c is nt a terrific rider..!

Reply

Saumitro Chakraborty April 11, 2009 at 6:57 pm

Well. Not too much. The dealer and mechanic says it is normal and is the sound of the engine. So…………….. The sound is noticeable only ocassionally though and i am not very sure of the mileage because i have not been keeping a tab on it. I will try to make an observation over next few days….
But it seems to be ok.
But this bike is not very light. In fact it is heavier than Bajaj M-80. I purchased this bike with a hope that this would be a bit light on my relatively frail, arthritic body but it turned out to be otherwise.
So in this factor will your mother be able to handle it??? You have to judge it because I am not a very powerfully built man, to be very frank. But if she is a strong woman, she should have no issues.
But it is really comfortable to drive it once it starts moving.
I will try to inform you more about this bike as i discover it myself.
Think well and take decision accordingly. And if I may advice, listening to too many comments and suggestions will only CONFUSE you.

sankoobaba April 11, 2009 at 8:22 pm

i don’t know much about this scooter..but
I agree with what @Saumitro Chakraborty says

“”listening to too many comments and suggestions will only CONFUSE you.””

that is completely true…
sometimes it makes sense to go with gut feeling…
so if you like something or certain scooter..
just go for it…you will certainly fall in love with it..

ride safe!!!

Hi AAhistha
I have been keeping a tab on the Streak for the last week or so and I have figured out the mileage of my bike. It is around 48 km/litre (give or take 3 kms). Most of the time i am travelling with my sister so this mileage value is generally on a double-carrying condition. not bad for a new bike???
Hope that gives you some idea. Let us know when you acquire your bike and what.

Hello Vidura
-a beautifully stylish looking bike.
-well balanced for a scooty bike with those relatively small tyres as compared to motor bikes.
-good grip on roads. I had a great experience yesterday. had drove out on slightly wet condition to fetch my sister from station about 6 km away. While returning a storm started along with extremely heavy rainfall, thunder and lightning.
This stretch of road I am talking about in Kolkata is notorious for is poor conditions and poorest traffic management. But my bike scooty held true as I negotiated through the usual maze of bus, scooters, bikes, auto-riskshaws,trucks, private vehicles and of course the drenched and unruly crowd.
Add to it was the stretches of the road totally inundated with rain water about a feet deep so that I could not see the pot-holes. But as said before the road grip was tested fully and i give this bike full marks.
As for the other data please go through my other entries.
All the best.

Well the mileage if the TVS Scooty Streak is about 45-48 km/litre on Kolkata roads where you have to apply brakes almost every 10 s.
But the accessories are not that well built. Like the stylish right MIRROR just broke apart on a slight touch as I was taking out the bike. It had mildly touched the overhanging staircase. You must understand that i cannot move too fast while taking out the congested passage from underneath the stairs where it is kept during the night. So if a slight connection can BRAKE that moulded stand………….. For a Rs. 42000/- bike I certainly do not expect poor build.
Warm regards friend.

nithya: In what way does scooty streak differs from scooty pep+?

No idea really since i have not driven the Pep+. But this question I had put to the mechanic and he told me that the engine was slight stronger and the working of the engine and other parts has been improved, in terms of power obtained.
God knows though :-)
But as I said if you have read all my other comments on this bike it is a fairly good bike though the build is NOT that tough. More a fancy one. Good for city roads if you do not rush it too much. requires soft and a bit delicate handling overall lest a part like mirror can break into two on a minor touch. Even the ignition key broke into two. So………..
If u buy this driving shall be very smooth. but will not withstand rough handling or driving.

DO NOT BUY TVS SCOOTY STREAK.
it is scary anf real streaky. Easy to drive but that’s when you manage to get is start up. Something basic wrong with its engine….. quite undependable as far as starting issues are concerned. It is a real issue. Tends to stall/stop now and then even after driving for a reasonable distance, despite the warming-up of the engine.
I suggest Pleasure or Pep+ or Activa (on the heavier side). These are the time tested ones. Don’t go by the looks of Streak. Looks are, almost always deceiving.
I wish i had not bought mine. It’s just over a year old and is driving me nuts.

By the way…..
I rarely see any streak on the roads of Kolkata (i am from Kolkata) except mine. Very very rarely that is! Even at the petrol pump when I go for filling, they are surprised at this model.

Reply

Saumitra June 4, 2010 at 6:15 am

Hi Ms. Radha
Here is something you can do when the bike does not start.
Open the seat.

Remove the storage compartment to reveal the engine.

On observation you will see the pipe that brings petrol into the engine. It is attached by a clip.

Press the clip and slowly (very gently)pull the tube out.

Put in the ignition key. And press the self start.

You shall see the petrol flowing out and surely the engine shall start.

Don’t worry. Let it flow for a few seconds.

Now with the petrol flowing re-attach the pipe to the engine and carefully adjust the clip so that the pipe is securely attached to the engine.

Put back the baggage compartment.

Close the seat.

Switch off the engine.

Wait for a small moment.

Restart.

I think that NOW, the bike shall run well for the day, more or less. The main problem is the fuel transmission. All else is just about OK except for the material strength of the bike.

Let me know if this has solved your problem.

This is what I do with my STREAK.

God bless you sister.

ALL THE BEST[:-)].

Guy’s my advise.

Scooty Streak is a failure, don’t go for it.

Bought this Streak when no other go (Activa was on strike) Unable to kick start,

Reasons – The front fibre piece comes out, The poor quality metal frame guard will get rusted very quickly. the locks gets jammed and the service people never help on this issue. the key is very slim – may break into 2 any time. My Steak is 10 months old and these are the problems i’am facing.

Pay a little more and go for some other brands.

Saumitro September 6, 2010 at 7:57 am

Hello Vanitha
My problems started almost the day after I purchased Streak. Breaking of the ignition keys into two while casually turning it to open the baggage compartment, was the beginning of the problem. The front handle system is light weight, as compared to the body, making steering a trifle unstable.
Starting problems never seem to end. The battery is just awful.
……………

I am planning to resale it in a year or 2, sufferring a financial set-back and to switch over to something else.

THANK GOD, LIFE SAVED, TVS PURCHASED THE STREAK BACK!!!

This would have been my all time favorite tall boy :), was meeting all my expectations.
But the Streak started giving a major problem within the first one month,
it use to stop all of a sudden in the traffic when at 20..30 kph
the scooter was given for problem solving during all the three free servicing, plus 5 more times ***special*** visits.
Even after 11 months the problem still remained, the TVS engineers would (miss)guide the dealer experts about the problem, each time it use to stop in the middle of the road after a 1..2 weeks of run.
Last month I gave them a final chance to repair the scooter, but by now none of the family members dare driving the scooter, we had nightmares that a bus from the back has ramped us after the scooter stopped in the middle of the road.
The TVS engineers couldn’t provide a solution neither could give a replacement, the dealer guys tried fixing the spark plug cap etc.. etc.. were totally disoriented.
The TVS engineers let the dealer handle it, in the next call they said a TVS engineer in touch with the dealer for the problem and so on, they wanted me to keep the scooter with them forever and no one realized the seriousness of the problem
This week after getting the problem twice again in a week, I contacted they TVS unit, they wanted me to believe me that they would be able to repair it then.
Finally, today, the TVS company c/o purchased back the scooter from me at 25% depreciation, I will have a secured life at this 25% royalty.
I’m going to publish this thanks note in news papers N number of times, I’m going to spend the remaining 75% for this.
Jago grahak jaago.

I am using this vehicle since one year.

I am not happy with this vehicle.

The problems are listed below:

1. Poor Design
2. Raised pillion seat is uncomfortable and pillion rider’s weight falls on the rider while descending a steep gradient which is very common in western part of Bangalore.
3. While climbing the gradient, the engine stops abruptly. One has to give the rest for engine for cooling down for 7-15 minutes and has to start the engine. There after wards, the problem repeatedly occurs through out your journey.
4. Brakes are very poor.
5. While negotiating humps (which are very common in Bangalore) one gets a lot of shock.
6. Engine stops while driving in rain.
7. Fancy electrical warning indicators stopped working after first servicing.
8. Poor Battery life.
9. Engine pickup is very slow.

Last thing is that:

Servicing is of very poor quality. The servicing centers are interested in servicing motorbikes rather than scooty streak.

Don’t buy this vehicle or its new variant which was launched during this year.

Vikrant,

I am also facing the same problem. I don’t know when exactly this vehicle stops. While overtaking a vehicle which is moving at 20-30 kmph, this vehicle gives problem. The engine will not generate sufficient power and I have decided not to risk my life.

This vehicle is a very very poor performer in Western Bangalore in areas such as Girinagar, Hosakerehalli, Nagarabhavi, Chandra Layout, Vijayanagar, Rajajinagar, Nandini Layout, Peenya, Magadi Road, etc. These areas are having roads with steep gradient.

I have tried to used this vehicle in Bommanahalli and Hosur Road areas. Only in Hosur Road area, I was able to comfortably drive this vehicle.

This is one of the poorly designed vehicle. I purchased this vehicle after evaluating Access, Aviator and Activa. Now, I feel that I have done a great mistake by purchasing this vehicle.

I have heard that Hero Pleasure is a stable bike even if you don’t like the design too much.
If you can go for a little heavier bike of a similar type then do opt for Honda ACTIVA. It surely is a good bike with great features.
DO NOT AT ANY COST BUY THE TVS STREAK. I AM A SUFFERER.
ALL THE BEST.

Dear Swapnali
Please go through all the above posts and you shall see why you SHOULD NOT purchase the TVS SCOOTY STREAK.
Try ACTIVA instead, though it is a bit more on the heavier side.
ALL THE BEST.

Hi Saumitro,

Are you really writing the review comment.
I doubted you as you write so many bad words about Streak.

Alex

Hello Alex
I am indeed writing about the TVS Scooty Streak
What I have written is absolutely true as far as my experience is concerned. I do own a Streak and i have just put down my viewpoints. But I have put up a few plus points as well………….
:-)
But why the doubts?

Regards.

Hi Friends,

I have recently purchased the scotty pep+ 5 days back. Even I too confused while making the decision whether I purchage pep or streak. When I saw the streak I found this model is not too much fasion as people think when I compare with Pep. I bought the vehicle for my wife who is 5′feet height. And streak is bit of hight mostly 1 inch overall and not confirmtable as pep.
But overall I could not found much difference so I have taken pep and my personal suggession
for the people who are taking new scooter in TVS model just go for Pep+ instead of streak.

Regards,
Shekhar

(but i stil never slipped or fell from pleasure, my frnd’s bike). also my sister has a red color bike already at home, she already warned me not to buy RED colored bike!… but tvs streak looks stunning only and only in red color.. :( no is encouraging to buy this bike.. its only my heart wanting this one.. wat to do? any other bike option? help..

Hi Maria, TVS Streak got very bad reviews so it’s better to go with honda bikes that is Pleasure, activa or Suzuki Access.

Hi Everyone,

I am using my scooty streak almost last two years. But I did not face too much problem in my bike. I did not face any serious starting problem. The pickup is bit lower than other scooters and it is expected because it has got 88cc engine. But mileage is very good. I am getting around 50km/lit. The look is very stylish and I am very much satisfied with my scooter.

Hi
I am having scooty streak since 2.5 yrs. Of late i find it heavy. My left hand pains.and started getting upper back pain from the nape of the neck. Especially not able to take doubles. Seems like i will fall. It also is little high for me.when anyone starts to sit behind I almost come down from the seat to hold the bike and balance.thinking of selling it for any other bike like activa or pleasure.but am confused whether to sell or not cos I hardly go too far. In two and half yrs.I have ridden only 5000 kms. Gave it for repair but not helping. please can anyone guide me what to do. I hv a buyer, who knowing the problem is ready to buy for 35000. Pls help me. Very confused.

Reviews are expected to change person to person. How a scooty responds it depends on ur personal care. I am really amazed by the reviews of SAUMITRA CHAKRABORTY HOW PEP+ will be better in performance than STREAK if it has the same to same technical specification, no change at all. Only looks and styling is enhanced in streak. so better GO FOR STREAK!!! (IF U R LOOKING FOR LIGHTWEIGHT N LESS HEIGHT SCOOTER).
Here r the diff between streak n pep+ :-

1. Looks better
2. Front telecoscopic suspension
3. rear petrol tank refiller (awesum for ladies!!)
4. greater rear wheel dimension gives greater ride experience
5. Front locked space for mobile, raincoat etc.

But if u want to buy heavier n more strength then go for AVIATOR OR ACCESS. Both r awsum.

TVS Streak is a great Scooter Indeed. Carries load and never gives me a problem. It also supports my Pocket as it’s Fuel consumption is very low.I got more than 55kmpl in busy roads of Kolkata. Its Great for me Indeed. And also it have a great Suspension. And it shines as new after 1 year use….I love it.

Reading all the comments all through, I wonder whether the company has made suitable changes. I visited the show room today, saw all the three – Pep+, wego and the ‘great’ streak. High pillion seat is definitely uncomfortable. That apart, the man there said that it is an improved version of Pep. But surely, until somebody who has used it for long, vouch for it, I will not risk buying it.

Like Vikrant, I had a very bad experience with Bajaj new model 10 years ago. After persistent complaints, the company sent a mechanic with me for a week to check the starting problem on road. Meetings after meetings, they offered me to try any number of vehicles from the show room for any number of days. Despite that I had to sell the chosen vehicle for there were complaints galore. I wrote to Rahul Bajaj about it. Lo! the good man was quick in response. Within a week I had an authorised factory mechanic at my door step but by then I had sold it.

Moral: Don’t buy new models. Go for the time tested ones. ( Unless you can afford taking chances )
