TVS Motors Working on a New Scoot (Bikeadvice Exclusive)

The hottest segment in the Indian two wheeler market is of course the scooters. Honda’s dominance in this segment is spectacular with about 50 per cent stake and the Activa has been the trump card for Honda to regain the Numero Uno position.

After Bajaj’s exit from the scooter segment, TVS Motors was marking its presence with its Scooty brand. The brand has been in the market for close to ten years and has seen several facelifts and upgrades. The Pep which is now serving the TVS with its Babylicious tag has been a hit amongst the girls owing to its smaller and sleeker design, besides its wide range of colour schemes available.

‘Wego’ has also been a quite successful product for TVS and the way the brand it has advertised its Body Balance Technology has created awareness of this brand in the market. While every manufacturer wants to mark their presence very clearly in this segment, TVS Motors has already taken a giant leap.

Trusted sources close to BikeAdvice suggest that South India based TVS Motors is now working on a new scooter model to mark its presence very strongly. Expect this new scooter to be priced exactly between the Scooty Pep and the Wego. The company is planning to launch this model either by the end of this year or early 2014 for that matter. Also, in order to dominate the mass market, we expect the design concept of this scooter to be without any gender bias as with the case of Scooty pep.

We’re currently not too sure of the engine that this new model would bear in its heart. The Pep+ comes with a 87.8cc engine capable of pumping a Max power of 3.68 Kw @ 6500 RPM and a Max Torque of 5.8 Nm @ 4000 RPM. On the other hand, the Wego is capable of displacing 109.7cc with a Max power of 8 bhp @ 7500 RPM and a peak Torque of 8 Nm @ 5500 RPM. We expect the Wego engine to get in inside the new model as well but might be with minor tweaks.
