TVS Motors to Launch Four New Products in 2012

by Naren on January 10, 2012

South India based TVS Motor Company today announced its plans of launching four new products during the year 2012, which includes two motorcycles in the executive segment and two scooters.

The company would test market its hybrid scooter, TVS Qube (our readers would have been well aware of this product – Cube whose pictures we had reported right on the first day of the Auto Expo) from June 2012 and plans to initially test market 200 scooters before its commercial launch in the year 2013. The TVS Qube has two sources of power which includes a 100cc four – stroke engine and an electric hub motor. The rider has the option to choose from a range of modes, depending on his or her requirement. This hybrid system charges the battery (which is lithium ion) when the brakes are applied and utilizes this power whenever required, therefore making the most efficient use of the energy available. In addition, this two – wheeler conserves energy when the vehicle halts at a traffic signal or is in standstill condition by halting the power source. (However, Patents are pending for this model).

This scooter also comes with the additional option of electric only with zero fuel (petrol) consumption and zero emissions and can be used for short trips. There is also an engine only mode, which can be used when the battery charge is very low. The TVS Hybrid Scooter also has the options of Hybrid Economy Mode and Hybrid Power Mode. In the economy mode, the engine and electric motor run as per the programmed strategy while in the power mode, both engine and electric engage together for better acceleration.

This green technology delivers significant emission reduction and improved fuel economy in city traffic driving with 35 per cent reduction in CO2 emission, 30% HC + NOx reduction and an increase of 35 per cent in fuel economy. The TVS Hybrid Scooter is therefore expected to deliver a fuel economy of around 70 kilometers in typical city riding conditions.

This product is proof of TVS Motor Company’s unwavering commitment to development of green technologies that will lead to substantial reduction in terms of CO2 levels.

TVS Motor Company, in an effort to increase its market share in the growing executive segment and give an option of upgrades to economy segment customers, announced the launch of two motorcycles in this segment.

The new motorcycle brand with 125cc engine capacity mated to a 4 speed gearbox and all features for this segment would be launched in the month of June 2012. The brand would however represent a bold new statement in the executive motorcycle segment. The refined mature design and the comfortable riding position coupled with the smooth responsive engine would make this vehicle a perfect urban mobility solution. Specifically tailor made for the everyday rider, this bike is feature packed and will provide an exciting riding experience and a modern styling.

Here is the biggest good news for the Indian customers. The second motorcycle in this segment is gonna be the re – launch its most popular TVS Victor brand in December 2012. An advanced programmed ignition system that will be deployed in the TVS Victor ensuring best performance in combustion and therefore best in class acceleration and fuel economy. TVS Victor is expected to return high fuel efficiency in typical city riding conditions.

In the growing scooter segment, TVS Motor Company is present with Scooty and Wego. The company now intends to further strengthen its position with launch of a 125cc scooter in December 2012, which will deliver high fuel efficiency in typical city riding conditions.

These new launches will complete the motorcycle portfolio while additional range to the scooter variants would complete the company’s product portfolio and increase its market share.

How do you like this news guys. Sounds great, right? We would love to hear your thoughts about this and so kindly post your comments in the form of words below.

dont limit yourself TVS, you have more competitors in premium segment like R15, CBR and upcoming pulsars including KTM. If you keep running apache 180 for years you cant come back

TVS CUBE is a fantastic and refreshing “concept” designed looker for a hybrid and perhaps a harbinger for the rest of the folks to follow with Hybrid or pure Electrics in this segment; one hopes that its performance is reasonable for Indian commuting conditions and with lithium-ion the pricing is appropriate – unlike the WEGO which is on the higher side when compared to alternatives.

I own a 2001 Victor GL and its still working fine, I don’t think any other bike bought in that time will be the owner until its trouble free with basic engine oil change and ayudha pooja service, TVS is “Tamilnadu Very Super” bike according to me.

Apache is performance-oriented engine and has sporty seating posture. But TVS needs to immediately update Apache with monoshock.

Apache is too sporty for executives/commuters. So, TVS should bring a power commuter 150cc with relaxed seating position; they dont have such bike currently. This should compete with Hunk/Unicorn and Gs150r. It should have a square engine for commuter bike (not oversquare like current apache).

Also, Flame is a good bike, but has bad styling. It looks too much plastic. It should get metallic paint finish like dazzler and SZ-R.

With bigger 12-inch wheels and telescopic front shocks, Wego is a good scooter, but rear end styling is bad. A 125cc Wego will be good, but should have double swing arm at rear.

The Apache is performance oriented with forward-lean seating posture for rider. This is a good bike, but should be updated with monoshock by TVS. Also, 180 has lesser vibration than 160. TVS should improve this too. But apache is not suitable for commuter/family man.

TVS do not have a proper commuter 150cc bike like unicorn, hunk, SZ-R, or gs150r. They should launch a commuter 150cc with relaxed seating like SZ-R for executive/commuters.

TVS flame is also good bike, but it looks stupid. It looks like too much plastic. They should give metallic paint finish even for plastic parts like SZ-R.

With bigger 12-inch wheels and telescopic front shock absorbers, the Wego is technically a good scooter, but rear end looks too long. A 125cc Wego will be nice but should have double swingarm at the rear.
