TVS Motors is Developing a Low Cost Motorcycle

According to Indian express news India’s third largest motorcycle manufacturer TVS Motors is planning a low cost motorcycle. This low cost motorcycle aims to compete with upcoming low cost model by other motorcycle manufacturers.  Venu  Srinivasan Chairman of TVS Motors said that they are working on low cost motorcycle. When asked about the details he said he can’t share more details currently.

It seem like all the major motorcycle manufacturers are developing a low cost motorcycle. Japan’s Honda motor company is developing a motorcycle that will cost just $600 (Rs 27,000).

Bajaj Auto is also developing a 100cc low cost motorcycle. Globally the trend is shifting to low cost high fuel efficiency motorcycle compare to high capacity, low fuel efficiency motorcycle.

The global demand for high capacity motorcycle segment (Above 500cc) is down 50% from its peak three years ago where as below 500cc motorcycle segment has seen continuous rise in demand.

Emerging nations such as India and China is still under penetrated in terms of vehicle density per person compare to developed nations. These both nations have very large demand for this kind of motorcycle. Beside this Africa and South East Asia are other regions which have strong demand and potential for low cost motorcycle.
