Things were going okayish for TVS Motors. The Apache, which was born in 2007, was company’s flagship however, they seemed to be stuck at just 180ccs! Things took a dramatic change on April 8, 2013, when TVS announced that they have signed a long term cooperation agreement with BMW Motorrad, to develop and produce sub 500cc motorcycles.

Although this was not really an out of the blue announcement, for there had been rumours floating around for nearly a year about a possible collaboration between these two companies. And now tales and buzzes have come blowing with the wind that they are well on course of coming out with their first product by end 2015 or latest by early 2016 according to Autocar. Although unlike the initial plan, they would not come out with an adventure oriented on/off road motorcycle, but with a street bike powered by a single cylinder 300cc mill.

The new motorcycle would come under the TVS banner but its heart will essentially be made with strong Bavarian DNA. It would be very interesting to see how this joint venture works out for TVS and even for BMW!

The Chennai based company has not come out with a new product for quite some time now. The company did however showcase a 250cc street fighter Draken-X21 at the Delhi Auto Show. The 134kg bikes seems to be a sly monster with typical BMW asymmetric biking fairing. As per the inputs from the company officials, Draken was just a concept on which they would build the new Apache, which can be expected by next year.

Yes, TVS has come a long way and we hope that this desi company will go even further. The new bike from TVS-BMW Motorad might just act as a catalyst in the fiercely fought quarter litre motorcycle segment.
