Currently, the visit of the British Prime Minister, David Cameron is very big news all over the country. The trade visit of Mr. Cameron has a very specific purpose- to promote British industries in India. In the delegation accompanying the Prime Minister is also a team of the iconic British motorcycle manufacturer Triumph. The team includes mostly top brass management of the company, to promote the motorcycling business in India. On a personal note, the timing for Triumph has been perfect. The market of the premium biking is catching up and triumph couldn’t have timed their marketing campaign any better. Triumph is slated to launch its range of motorcycles later this year in the country.

And like other premium bike manufacturers, this company is not taking the safe route of CBU to gauge the waters. Rather, they are going to sell via the CKD route, which will be assembled at a brand new upcoming manufacturing facility in Karnataka. Triumph has already purchased a 30 acre plot and commenced activities with the setting up of the plant. Coming via the CKD route will help the company price its products in a very competitive way. Other than building bikes via the CKD route, the company is also working a 250cc motorcycle specifically for the Indian market. Rumour is ripe that this model has been in the works for quite some time at its secret R&D facility.

Triumph CEO Nick Bloor said of the firm’s investment over there: “India is a very important motorcycle market and Triumph has assessed it carefully before deciding to invest. We see it as the next step in our global business model and this week’s visit will, I hope, help us to foster further relationships with local businesses to allow us to progress our plans within the Indian market.” any plans for exporting the bikes to various international markets has not been made clear till now. Triumph aims to manufacture around 300,000 and 500,000 bikes per year in India which is a huge number, considering the company’s premium product portfolio!
