Gixxer! They first teased us by showing the bike at the Auto Expo; they then revealed some new bits and specs about the bike on their official website which are real interesting.
Finally Suzuki has sent us an invitation for the bike’s launch which will take place in New Delhi. Gixxer will be officially launched on September 9, 2014 and we would obviously be there giving you minute by minute updates.
Mr Atul Gupta, Executive Vice President, Suzuki Motorcycle India, will be present during the press conference.
As we know, Gixxer will sport a 154.9cc carburetted mill which churns out 14.8PS of peak power at 8000 rpm and 14Nm of all that interesting torque maxing at 6000rpm. At a mere 135 kg of kerb weight, these should translate into some real good on-road performance figures.
Hopefully it will live up to its street fighter image, something which we would understand only after a thorough road test. The 140 section rear tire provides ‘mass’ to the bike and should be a good tarmac hugger. We hope, it doesn’t end up being as problematic as the one on older FZs.
Loosing one cog, the Gixxer will be sporting a 5-speed transmission (instead of the 6-speed gearbox of GS150R). Gixxer also incorporates Suzuki’s Eco Performance (SEP) technology to boost its fuel efficiency figures. As per Suzuki, SEP helps in increasing fuel efficiency without compromising on the power output front. Bookings are already open and deliveries should begin soon after the launch.
Interestingly, the launch falls exactly on the same day when KTM is launching their RC twins in Pune.
