Ducati Motors has given us a sneak peek about the upcoming 2013 Multistrada range of motorcycles that will be unveiled at the INTERMOT motorcycle show. The Multistrada with its sheer off-roading and touring capabilities has held the fort for quite some time. However, how can we forget the orange beast motorcycle manufacturer from Austria who is equally super specialized in developing such motorcycles? Yes, it’s KTM and there is a new kid on the block, the 2013 KTM 1190 Adventure and Adventure R. Apparently, the first images of the 1190 Adventure and ‘R’ appeared in the official KTM website and they were downloaded in huge numbers post which KTM has removed them.

Now, it is unsure whether it was a publicity stunt or a technical glitch on the part of some company official. However, since the images have been revealed, here is what we can say. Up front the bike does look like a good challenger for the Multistrada but feels a bit distorted from the front with its unusually long headlamp. The Multistrada with its eagle beak shaped front looks much sportier. Underneath, the 1190 Adventure R uses the LC8 V-Twin engine derived from the KTM RC8 sports bike. The engine is expected to churn out 150 BHP of power and about 125nm of torque. Fuel supply will be via electronic fuel injection with a drive-by-wire type throttle control and slipper clutch. The bike boasts of a kerb weight of 230kg and features many high tech controls like Multistage Combined ABS Bosch, BOSCH multi-Traction Control (MTC) and on-demand multiple programmable electronic WP Suspension (EDS).

The Adventure and Adventure R runs on 20/70-19 front and 170/60-17 rear tires. Dual discs up front with 4 piston Brembo calipers make up for the brakes in front while at the rear it is Brembo single rotor. It is rumored to be shown to the public at the upcoming INTERMONT show in Cologne in October. Also to be showcased will be the BMW R1200GS, another potential competitor. 2013 is turning out to be extremely exciting so far.
