Indian Bikes Sales Figures for April 2011

Hero Honda: Hero Honda the world’s no. 1 two wheeler company has posted growth of 39.12% in the month of April 2011 compared to April 2010.  The company has sold 5,17,099 units of two wheeler in the month of April 2011 compared to 3,71,652 units of two wheeler sold in the month of April 2010. This is by far company’s highest ever sales in company’s history. The previous highest ever sales of 5,15,852 units in March 2010.

This is the twelfth consecutive month where Hero Honda has sold more than 4 lakh units and the fouth time more than 5 lakh plus sale in the current financial year. On the month on month basis the sales remain flat. The company sold 5,15,852 units in the month of March 2011.  Hero Honda Pleasure is continuously crossing 35,000 units a month mark.

‘It is extremely heartening to begin the new fiscal year with our best-ever monthly sales. This has been possible due to our all-round growth – across territories and across segments,’ said Anil Dua, senior vice-president (Marketing and Sales), Hero Honda Motors.

The company has set a target to sell 6.15 million units of both motorcycles and scooters in 2011-12. The company has expanded its capacity to 6.15  million units with initial investment of Rs. 3 billion. The company is running at its optimum capacity to satisfied demand. As expected the company’s has started selling 5 lakh plus units from the last month.

Bajaj Auto

Country’s second largest two wheeler maker, Bajaj Auto has reported growth of 16.71 % in the month of April 2011.This is by far company’s highest ever monthly sales for April month. The company has sold 3,22,235 units of motorcycle in the month of April 2011 compared to 2,76,095 units in the month of April 2010. The company exported 1,58,422 units in the month of April 2011 up by 39.08% compared to 1,13,911 units in the month of April 2010. It is to be noted that there were 32,000 units  were treated as vehicle in transit, Hence they were not considered as export even the company sold these units in the month of March.

On the month on month basis sales is down by 17.25%. The company sold 2,74,839 units in the month of March 2011. The company’s total sales stood at 3,67,309 units in the month of April 2011 up by 17.17% compared to 3,13,472 units in the month of April 2010. Pulsar and Discover combined sales stood at 67% of overall motorcycle sales of April 2011. The company sold 70,000 Pulsar and 1,33,000 Discover. The company has sold 20,000 units of its newly launched Discover 125cc in the month of April 2011.

The company is aiming to sale 4.6 million units in this financial year with 4.1 million units of motorcycle.  The company is aiming to sale over a million units of Pulsars and 1.7 million units of Discover in the financial year 2011-12. The company will also re-launch Boxer which will contribute close to 300,000 units for the financial year 2011-12.

TVS Motors

TVS Motors has posted growth of 13.47% in the month of April 2011. The company has sold 1,64,183 units in the month of April 2011 compared to 1,44,689 units sold in the month of April 2010. Total sales stood at 1,67,744 units in the month of April 2011 up by 13.98% compared to 1,47,172 units sold in the same period last year.  On the month on basis the company has reported sales degrowth of 13.76%. The company has sold 1,86,781 units of two wheeler in the month of March 2011.

Domestic sales stood at 1,41,619  units in the month of April 2011 up by  12.87% compared to 1,25,471 units sold in the month of April 2010. Export stood at 25,275 units in the month of April 2011 up by 28.58% compared to 19,657 units sold in March 2010. The company sold 35,074 units of scooter in the month of April 2011 up by 30.58% compared to 26,860 units of scooter sold in the month of April 2010.  Motorcycle sales stood at 69,573 units in the month of April 2011 up by 5.14% compared to 66,000 units sold in the month of April 2010. Moped sales stood at 59,536 units in the month of April 2011.

Honda (HMSI)

India’s largest scooter manufacturing company Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Ltd reported flate sales in the month of April 2011. The company reported sales of 1,36,623 units in the month of Apirl  2011 compared to 1,36,862 units in the April 2010. On month on month basis the company’s sales is down by 7.25%. The company sold 1,47,301 units in the month of March 2011.

Motorcycle sale is down by 4.14% in the month of April 2011. The company sold 61,515 units in the month of April 2011 compared to 64,175 units in the month of April 2010. On the other hand Scooter sales grew by 3.33%. The company sold 75,108 units of scooter in the month of April 2011 compared to 72,687 units in the month of April 2010.

HMSI is growing at very fast rate but the sales are constrained by capacity. As the company’s second plant in Rajasthan is going to become operational in July months the company will post higher sales.

Yamaha India

Yamaha India has reported sales growth of 38.01% in the month of April 2011 compared to April 2010. Total sales stood at 34,476 units in the month of April 2011 compared to 24,968 units last year in the same period. The company reported month on month basis sales is declined by 6.65%. The company sold 36,768 units in the March 2011. Domestic sales stood at 25,817 units in the month of April 2010 up by 53.04% compared to 16,869 units in the month of April 2010. Export stood at 8,659 units in the month of April 2011 up by 6.91% compared to 8,099 units in the month of April 2010.

Commenting on the sales performance, India Yamaha Motor Pvt Ltd CEO and Managing Director Hiroyuki Suzuki said: “We are delighted with the encouraging sales figures that we have been witnessing consistently this year. Our marketing and promotion activities are on track and we hope to sustain this growth for the rest of the year”.

The firm is also strengthening its sales and service network in the Tier-II and Tier-III cities to further increase reach to the customer base in the inner parts of the country, he added.

Suzuki Motorcycle

Suzuki Motorcycle India reported massive growth of 41.48% in the month of April 2011 compared to April 2010. The company’s total sales stood at 29,369 units in the month of April 2011 compared to 20,758 units in the month of April 2010. The company has reported growth of 7.34 % month on month which means the company is expanding its capacity. The company sold 27,361 units in the month of March 2011.

Commenting on the April sales performance, SMIPL Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, Atul Gupta said: “We have received very good response from the market to all our products. The growing customer satisfaction among present owners of Suzuki products has led to a positive word-of-mouth in the market”.

The company attributed its growth to the good response to its GS150R motorcycle and Access125 scooter, besides the recently launched SlingShot bike.

Mahindra Two Wheelers

Two wheeler company Mahindra two wheeler reported growth of mere 6.09% in the month of April 2011 compared to April 2010. Total sales stood at 9,558 units in the month of March 2011 compared to 9,009 units in the month of March 2010. The scooter sales stood at 12,771 units in the month March 2011 up by 6.09% compared to 12,297 units in the month of March 2010.  As the production of Mahindra Sattalio halted the company has not reported any sales for Mahindra Sattalio. Month on Month basis the company’s sales is down by 25.15%. The company sold 12,771 units last month.

As said earlier the company will not be able to report any higher growth rate in upcoming month as the demand for scooter is slowing down compared to previous month. Moreover market leader HMSI is going to set up second plant which will reduce waiting period for Activa. It will affect Mahindra two wheeler the most as the company mostly gain sales due unavailability of Activa. Upcoming months will be very challenging for Mahindra two wheelers.
