Indian Bikes Sales Figure for September 2011

Hero MotoCorp: Hero MotoCorp. the world’s no. 1 two wheeler company has posted growth of 26.75% in the month of September 2011 compared to September 2010.  The company has sold 5,49,625 units of two wheeler in the month of September 2011 compared to 4,33,641  units of two wheeler sold in the month of September 2010. This is by far company’s highest ever sales till the date. On the month on month basis the sales is up by 9.13%. The company sold 5,03,654 units in the month of August 2011.  Hero Honda Pleasure is continuously crossing 35,000 units a month mark. The company has reported sales of 30,73,852 units for the period of April to September 2011 up by 21.98% compared to 25,19,973 units during the same period last year.

Commenting on September month figure Hero MotoCorp Senior Vice-President (Marketing and Sales) Anil Dua said, “We continue to progress on our growth trajectory this year and September sales have added a new milestone to our journey. Sales have been regularly in excess of half a million two-wheelers per month since the formation of our new company, setting the pace for our continued leadership. The company expects this momentum to continue in the festive season and its plans are in place to meet the market demand.”

The first six months figure suggest that the company will easily achieve it’s 6 million units target if not exceed it. The company is also looking for establishing fourth plant since the present capacity of 6.15 million units will not be sufficient for the next financial year.

Bajaj Auto

Country’s second largest two wheeler maker, Bajaj Auto has reported growth of 18.02% in the month of September 2011. The company has sold 3,71,208 units of motorcycle in the month of September 2011 compared to 3,14,515 units in the month of September 2010. This is by far company’s highest ever monthly sales for September month and highest ever sales for motorcycle in company’s history. The company exported 1,41,913 units in the month of September 2011 up by 39.18% compared to 1,01,960 units in the month of September 2010.

On the month on month basis sales is up by 9.81%. The company sold 3,38,054 units in the month of August 2011. The company’s total sales stood at 4,17,686 units in the month of September 2011 up by 18.43% compared to 3,52,679 units in the month of September 2010. Pulsar and Discover combined sales stood at 66% of overall motorcycle sales of September 2011. In the second month of its launch Boxer BM 150 did close to 20,000 units. The company has sold 19,90,408 units of two wheeler during April to September 2011 period up by 16.27% compared to 17,11,863 units sold during the same period last year. Combined sales of brand Discover has crossed 5 million marks which is remarkable for Bajaj Auto.

The company is aiming to sale 4.6 million units in this financial year with 4.1 million units of motorcycle.  The company is aiming to sale over a million units of Pulsars and 1.7 million units of Discover in the financial year 2011-12. The half year figure suggest that the company may do 4.5 million units in total which is 0.1 million less than its target.

TVS Motors

TVS Motors has posted growth of 16.73% in the month of September 2011. The company has sold 2,15,690 units in the month of September 2011 compared to 1,84,783 units sold in the month of September 2010. Total sales stood at 2,19,369 units in the month of September 2011 up by 16.68% compared to 1,88,005 units sold in the same period last year.  On the month on basis the company’s sales is up by 13.41%. The company sold 1,90,184 units of two wheeler in the month of August 2011.

Domestic sales stood at 1,92,027  units in the month of September 2011 up by  16.09% compared to 1,65,418 units sold in the month of September 2010. Export stood at 25,973 units in the month of September 2011 up by 26.78% compared to 20,487 units sold in September 2010. The company sold 55,879 units of scooter in the month of September 2011 up by 29.69% compared to 43,086 units of scooter sold in the month of September 2010.  Motorcycle sales stood at 90,848 units in the month of September 2011 up by 11.63% compared to 81,381 units sold in the month of September 2010. Moped sales stood at 68,963 units in the month of September 2011. The company has sold 11,17,253 units during April 2011 to September 2011 period up by 15.06% compared to 9,71,039 units in the same period last year.

TVS Motors motorcycle sale is stagnating now. The company is pushing well on moped front. The company is also bullish on export front and exploring new opportunities to expand its export market. The company has set goal of selling 2.4 million units in this financial year.

HMSI

India’s largest scooter manufacturing company Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Ltd reported sales growth of 44.26% in the month of September 2011. The company reported sales of 1,78,642 units in the month of September 2011 compared to 1,23,831 units in the September 2010. On month on month basis the company’s sales is up by 11.19%. The company sold 1,60,666 units in the month of August 2011.

Motorcycle sale is up by 21.38% in the month of September 2011. The company sold 71,018 units in the month of September 2011 compared to 58,508 units in the month of September 2010. On the other hand Scooter sale is up by whopping 64.48%. The company sold 1,07,444 units of scooter in the month of September 2011 compared to 65,323 units in the month of September 2010. The company has sold 9,22,979 units during the April 2011 to September 2011 period up by 13.21% compared to 8,15,310 units sold in the same period last year.

As expected sales is increasing on the month on month basis now. Scooter number for HMSI has grown at the rate of 65% this month which suggests continuous capacity expansion. The higher growth rate is also attributed to lower sales last year due to strike. The company has started building its third plant in Narsapur Industrial area, 52 Km away from Banglore, Karnatak to expand it’s capacity to 4 million units by mid 2013.

Yamaha India

Yamaha India has reported sales growth of 28.04% in the month of September 2011 compared to September 2010. Total sales stood at 43,462 units in the month of September 2011 compared to 33,944 units last year in the same period. Month on month basis the sales is up by 10.06%. The company sold 39,490 units in the August 2011. Domestic sales stood at 32,637 units in the month of September 2011 up by 35.24% compared to 24,133 units in the month of September 2010. Export stood at 10,825 units in the month of September 2011 up by 34.06% compared to 7,829 units in the month of September 2010. During April to September 2011 the company sold 2,31,032 units up by 34.10% compared to 1,72,289 units sold in the same period last year.

Commenting on the sales India Yamaha Motor Director, Sales & Marketing, Jun Nakata said: “We are very happy with our sales performance this month which can be attributed to our deluxe & premium segment bikes such as FZ series and YZF-R15. The newly launched R15 version 2.0 has also been received very well in the market and we are trying our best to meet the growing demand.” He added, “Our powerful commuter SZ bike also continues to grow at a brisk pace. With the festive season around the corner, we expect our sales momentum to continue over the next few months.”

The company has recently launched version 2.0 of its flagship motorcycle YZF-R15. The company is aiming to sell 5,00,000 units in this financial year with 3,50,000 units of domestic sales and 1,50,000 units of export. The company is also planning to launch scooter in this year.

Suzuki Motorcycle

Suzuki Motorcycle India reported growth of 29.05% in the month of September 2011 compared to September 2010. The company’s total sales stood at 29,094 units in the month of September 2011 compared to 22,545 units in the month of September 2010. Month on month basis the company has reported 8.71 % growth in sales. The company sold 29,094 units in the month of August 2011. During the April 2011 to September 2011 the company sold 1,68,037 units up by 39.12% compared to 1,20,710 units in the same period last year.

Commenting on September month sales SMIPL Vice-President (Sales and Marketing) Atul Gupta said “We have received a very good response from the market to all our products. The growing customer satisfaction among present owners of Suzuki products has led to a positive word-of-mouth in the market. We are committed to give the best to our customers.”

Suzuki Motorcycle is the fastest growing two wheeler company in India now.

Mahindra Two Wheelers

Two wheeler company Mahindra two wheeler reported de growth of 16.07% in the month of September 2011 compared to September 2010. Total sales stood at 13,906 units in the month of September 2011 compared to 16,569 units in the month of September 2010. The company is going to re-launch Sattalio within few months. Month on Month basis the company’s sales is down by 8.03%. The company sold 15,120 units last month. During the April to September 2011 period the company reported sales of 74,254 units up by 4.83% compared to sales of 70,836 units in the same month last year. The cumulative sales for the company have crossed a landmark figure of two and a half lakh units, with the Rodeo and Duro brands have crossed a figure of 1,00,000 units.

The company has reported massive de growth this month in spite of dealer base expansion and promotional activities. This is clear indication that customers are moving from brand Mahindra. Moreover market leader HMSI has increased Activa production which is also taking some unit sales of Mahindra two wheelers. Going forward we will not see good growth figures if situation remains like this.

The Indian two wheeler industry’s growth rate remain intact in the month of September on the back of festive season despite the impact of so many negative factors like fuel price hike, increase in prices of two wheelers etc. The September 2011 month has seen sales of more than 1.40 million units up by 24.06% compared to 1.13 million units sold in September 2010. The period April 2011 to September 2011 has witnessed growth of 18.74% over the same period last year. More than 7.58 million units of two wheelers sold during the period of April 2011 to September 2011 compared to 6.38 million units in the same period last year.

Hero Moto Corp the market leader is continuously posting double digit growth with robust sales each month. It has done 3.01 million units sales in the current financial year. Bajaj Auto the second largest manufacturer of two wheelers has sold nearly 2 million units in the current financial year.

TVS Motors has sold more than 1.12 million units whereas HMSI sales stood at 0.92 million units during April 2011 to September 2011 period. Yamaha India, Suzuki Motorcycle and Mahindra two wheelers sold 0.23 million, 0.17 million and 0.07 million units respectively during the period of April 2011 to September 2011. Going ahead we will continuously have double digit growth in two wheeler industry despite fuel price hike and rising price of two wheelers as there are several new product launches in pipeline for next 6 month.
