Hyosung ST7 Review

by Deepak on July 4, 2011

Think of yourself going on straight road, in silent atmo and is listening only one tune… coming out from twin exhaust of Hyosung ST 7. This was what I felt when R.C. guy started the ignition in the V-Twin of ST 7. I had not steered ST 7. Even though, I should introduce this cruiser to you because it is also an excellent bike as well.

Engine

Its power plant has capacity of 678.2 cc and produces 57.66 BHP @ 8000 RPM. Torque produced by this engine is 57 Nm@ 6000 RPM which is less than the GT 650 R. Again V-twin has been used for this cruiser with 3000 ml oil capacity for lubrication. Water cooling is provided along with digital control for the engine. Closed FI is incorporated just as in GT 650 R. Company claims 20 kmpl fuel consumption for this bike.

Transmission

It uses five speed gear box along with wet multi plate clutch. Bike could reach up to 170 kmph (According to R. C. guys). Belt drive has been preferred as a final drive provided to the rear wheel, just as HD and other custom choppers do.

Suspensions & Brakes

Front suspensions are conventional telescopic type with 120 mm travel.  Rear suspension is double shock swinging arm type. Conventional type callipers are used for front as well as rear brakes.

Aesthetics

It is just like other classic cruiser: long, wide and heavy. Riding posture is very comfortable with which you can drive hundreds of kms constantly. There are three colour variants introduced to India: Scarlet Red, Classic White & Ebony Black. Major attractions on this machine are its crome plated air filter cover, gear box and twin silencers. Both the wheels have crome plated 13 spokes which add macho look to the machine. Tag line given to this bike is “Only for real man”……which stays correct.

Price

Rs.6,31,000 on road in Ahmedabad.

Service

Garware-Hyosung has planned following services to be provided to Indian customers.

For a bike costing half a million rupees, they can atleast provide full tank of fuel.

Though bike has been designed very well, I’m not satisfied with the seating arrangement made for this cruiser. It looks dumb, even the rear side number plate has not been positioned properly.

A question to the gurus…
Just out of curiosity…
Max torque @ 6000 RPM is apt for a cruiser?? Even our own Enfield produces its peak torque @ just 4k (28 Nm @ 4000 rpm)

The Bike looks attractive, haven’t ridden it but for sure it should have some character of its own which should be unique to it. otherwise for that price buying an HD Iron will be more apt.
