Though more and more people are moving towards 125cc bikes, there is a large chunk of the market which has its mind fixed on 100cc bikes. The perception of “I need maximum mileage, don’t need much power” suits 100cc bikes perfectly.
Hero Honda and Bajaj are dominating this market with Splendor/Passion and Discover brands respectively… and now it looks like Honda wants a share of the 100cc pie.
Honda is planning to launch a 100cc bike by 2011 April and expect this bike to be priced around Rs.40,000.
The game plan of Honda seems obvious. Enter late into the market but with very solid products. They did that with Unicorn in the 150cc segment. CBF Stunner in 125cc segment. They are going to do it with CBR250R. And this is going to be no surprise. 🙂
