Honda CB Unicorn Dazzler Review

by Deepak on May 31, 2010

Call it a result of a lot of prayers or cursing, HMSI very recently launched the upgrade to its long time warhorse Unicorn and dubbed it as CB Unicorn Dazzler. This launch makes Dazzler the 5th bike to use the same 150cc engine in different tunings. It was first used on the Unicorn followed by Achiever, CBZ Extreme and Hunk and now on the Dazzler.

[flv:http://bikeadvice.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/Honda-CB-Unicorn-Dazzler-Review.flv 480 360]

The interesting part is that all the bikes are currently on sale, either on HMSI’s or Hero Honda’s showrooms.

This new offering comes with a lot of firsts and luring features and here we take a first look at all of them:

  1. LOOKS: Honda has paid special emphasis on the looks of this bike. The bike has been laden with aggressive styling, fiery looking bikini fairing with screenless front cowl, Honda’s emblem embossed huge side cowls similar to Twister, twin tone seats, sporty half chain cover and an attractive pointed tail.
  2. ENGINE: Honda has increased the power output of this bike by 0.7 bhp with the output going up to 14bhp in contrast to 13.3bhp produced by the older mill. This makes it more powerful than Achiever and CB Unicorn but still lesser than Hunk and Extreme. The peak power is now produced 500rpm higher at 8500 compared to Unicorn’s 8000 rpm. Torque output remains constant at 12.8 Nm but again the engine produces it at a higher rpm of 6500 compared to 5500 of the older engine. All this signifies that the bike would be a higher revving bike.
  3. REAR DISC: Dazzler becomes the first bike among Honda’s 150cc arsenal to sport a 220mm rear Nissin disc brake as standard. Front remains the same 240mm Nissin rotor.
  4. DIGITAL CONSOLE: Better late than never! Dazzler also becomes the first bike among Hondas 150cc arsenal which has been endowed with a semi digital console. The assembly comprises of an analogue tachometer (which now redlines at 9250 rpm from the 9000 for the earlier model), regular information lights and a blue backlit digital speedometer which displays speed in big bold letters, tripmeter, clock and a fuel meter.
  5. WEIGHT REDUCTION: Seems like Honda has understood the importance of saving every little kilogram on a bikes overall characteristics, Dazzler is a full 8 kilograms lighter than Unicorn. As a result, we might expect it to be slightly more flickable than the older version.
  6. ALTERED DIMENSIONS: All the dynamics have been made smaller on this new bike. Length cut short to 2073mm (from 2095mm), Breadth reduces to 754mm (from 756mm) and height trimmed down to 1085mm (from 1100mm). Wheelbase also finds itself shorter at 1328mm (from 1340mm) and even the ground clearance has not been spared. The bike stands only 162mm taller to the ground as compared to the earlier 179mm. In all, Dazzler is a smaller bike as compared to CB Unicorn. This gives us a small glimpse of where has Honda gained those 8 kilograms of weight advantage from.
  7. OMISSION OF KICKER: In sharp contrast to Honda’s conservative thought process, the company has given away the kick start. A big question which struck our mind was, WHY? Others do it because their bikes have sporty riding positions and to save the rider of facing the CBZ Classic-like hassles of folding the footpeg to kick start the bike. Dazzler comes with a very commuter oriented seating posture and Honda could have easily accommodated a kicker at its original place. This would further shoo away conservative customers who still feel a machine is incomplete without a kick start.
  8. HIGH FUEL EFFICIENCY: Quite akin to Unicorn, Dazzler has also been claimed to return FE figures of 60kmpl under Indian Mode. On road, however, we feel this bike would be slightly less frugal than CB Unicorn.
  9. SMALLER FUEL TANK: Unicorn boasted a huge tank with a fuel carrying capacity of 13 liters but Dazzlers tank has been made slimmer with a loss of 1 liter in fuel carrying capacity.
  10. NEW TIRES: HMSI has reverted to 17 incher broader rubbers for this bike. Specifications for the front are 80/100 17 (from 2.75 * 18) and rear are 110/80 17 (from 100/90 18). Tuff up tubes on the Unicorn also makes way for Tubeless rubber on this machine.
  11. PERFORMANCE: Though no claims have been made by HMSI we expect this bike’s performance to be slightly better than the older Unicorn in outright performance. However, existing CB Unicorn might still remain a better in-city tool with Dazzler performing better where higher revs are required.
  12. OTHER TIDBITS: Vibrations dampeners, Maintenance Free 12Volt 4Ah Maintenance Free Battery (The older Unicorn comes with 12V 7Ah), Viscous Air Filter etc

For owning this bike customers will have to pay a premium over the existing Unicorn and why not, this bike comes loaded with so much! On road Pune, Dazzler costs Rs. 71,790 which makes it Rs 4000 costlier than the existing Unicorn (CB Unicorn costs Rs 67,708 OTR Pune). With all the added gadgets and tweaks this bike seems like a good prospect.

However, on second thoughts with the price tag lingering around the Yamaha’s FZ (FZ 16 costs Rs 73k OTR Pune), a comparison between these two becomes inevitable.

Dazzler doesn’t have FZ like ground breaking looks, nor does it carry insane power like the Apache, nor the homogonous torque of the FZ but what it carries over is the decent-looker better mileage factor. So does it make a good buy at the increased price? Wait for a thorough test drive as we dig deep to answer the same question!

Yes, there are lots of plus points for Dazzler, but I don’t know why Honda hasn’t launched a sporty 150cc, since they already have a 150cc commuter. If they call this as a sporty bike, then how can they retain the same seating position and handle bar of the Unicorn ? They should have launched something like Stunner.

Surely the old Uni seems to be better than this Dazzler on all aspects.

1. Smooth riding ability – gone
2. Bigness of Uni – gone
3. Without a kick-start, Reliability – gone (according to my friends, this is not my personal opinion as I own a FZ-S)
4. I think this looks worse than Uni (personally)
5. No sporty stance for the rider

Lets just wait for the 220cc mill from Honda!!

This does seem like a value proposition, but as Shaiju said.. they could have gone ahead and launched a no compromise performance machine rather than claiming 60kmpl thingy!!

This is very good looking machine but it has lost the solid metal feel of old Uni. Also the old Uni is more manly & big looking than this smaller bike. No doubt specs wise this new version in way ahead.

hi guys…i went ahead wit CB unicorn, im 27 and a software professional.
for me CB unicorn is the most sophisticated and executive looking at the same time has a tinge of sportiness in it…
i got my bike after the launch of dazzler, so for me the bike needed a lot more than just the plastic wrk to change my mind.
some of my frnds say y did u go for a age-old unicorn instead of dazzler(i hate wen tey call it Unicorn dazzler)
i hav only one wrd for them CB Unicorn will achieve a cult/immortal status, i do not see Honda even in thr dreams discontinuing CB Unicorn model for street dazzlers.
i thnk i made a sensible decision…havn’t I?

dazzler has 12Volt 4Ah Maintenance Free Battery (The older Unicorn comes with 12V 7Ah)why honda why?if you have omitted kick start then rider will have to solely depend on lower capacity battery.and for frequent electric starts the battery might prove insufficient.if i am stuck in a jungle…god save me.

dazzler should have sporty seating position like CBZs and hunk why i dont know honda has made this bike simple like unicorn and with know kick so honda you have to learn more about seatings geometry about your sisters hero honda

No sporty characteristics, just a measly increase in power, same refined old unicorn engine, same 60kmpl mileage, and finally you get a 150cc version of the stylish cb twister for Rs.70000-72000 on road.
For this amount, the only sensible choice would be the fz only.

madhu June 2, 2010 at 9:15 pm

Its perfect to call it as semi digital console coz digital stuff doesn’t cover even 50 % of the console space

I would prefer the old unicorn front look rather than dazzler

No kick start and low power battery its tough for this bike to face our indian running conditions

Back disc break is a boon for experienced driver but for a first time buyer its a :-o ?

I would say its awesome if they mounted the 150cc mill under stunner skin

hai, friends i got an opportunity to ride this bike.i didnt understand why they retained old unicorn posture.but performance i was thunder struck i hadnt expect any thing more than old unicorn but it pulls strongly than any other 150cc at any gear even from lowspeed the loves to be reved even though vibe free it is not butter smooth as old uni.after riding this bike i regret buying my FZ-S.it is more powerful ,frugal, cheaper than fz s.i also liked the ducati street bike like digi console.

Guys, I got the opportunity to have a long test ride of dazzler. I was stunned by its performance. It can be compared to apache RTR 160. Do not believe me, have a test ride. On paper it has 14bhp only but it has got solid initial, mid and top end performance. CB dazzler and CB Unicorn shares the same engine but yet they are different. The engine is not as silent as unicorn but very powerful. At high speeds it is not as stable as unicorn or gs150r but totally vibefree as the noise level too is less than gs150r. I bought GS150R 4 months back waiting since an year for unicorn upgrade. Now they came with dazzler and this time they have another winner. It can surely beat all 150CC bikes currently in the market(except R15) in performance, handling and engine refinement. I found the performance of this bike much better than my GS150R which has already bagged the best performance bike of the year 2010. Guys, do not go buy the specs on the paper or by the looks. Take a long test ride of this bike. It will really amaze you as it did to me.

Hi Everyone,

I’m planning to buy a bike. But lost between Suzuki GS150R and Unicorn Dazzler. Both have their fair share of pros and cons. But the most worrying issue for me with GS150R is the “Rusting” of parts, and for Unicorn Dazzler I worry about the reliability of self-start only mechanism (especially during the Monsoons).

Can anybody please advise if the “Rusting” issues have been taken care of in the 2010 version of GS150R and my suspicion about sel-start only mechnism of Unicon Dazzler is relatively baseless ?

I need to make a decision in coming week.. So any early replies would be really helpful…

P.S: I want the bike to give me a decent milege (if not revving performance) and fair deal of comfort in riding, maintenance and handling…

WELL I M VERY MUCH CONFUSED B/N THESE 2 BIKES.
PLZ SHARE UR OPINION…..GUYS….
HELP ME OUT……IN ABOUT A MONTH I AM GOIN 2 BOOK ANY ONE B/N DAZZLER AND CB UNI.
SO HELP ME OUT WHICH IS BETTER….

WHAT I NEED IS A VIB FREE PERFORMER, COZY FOR PILLON AND RELIABILITY…

AND OFCOURSE MILEAGE

I have a hunk and I use self start and I haven’t faced any problems with it for the past 2 and a half years. I guess it will not be a problem for Dazzler too!

Ahmed June 8, 2010 at 9:13 pm

@Hardik

Unfortunately the rusting issue is still present in GS150R 2010 model but is very rare. Do not worry the tank will be replaced free of cost by suzuki. If you are going for GS150R, thoroughly inspect the bike for any rust before taking the delivery. Only self-start is the latest trend in the Indian biking. There is no need to worry about it. Dazzler comes with maintenance free battery so there won’t be any issue.
GS150R is lazy in the city but amazing at high speeds whereas dazzler has got solid pickup irrespective of any gear or speed. I found dazzler much better than my GS150R in terms of performance. It can beat any 150CC bike currently in the market. The mileage claimed by honda is 60kmpl but I doubt it. We can’t have performance and mileage at the same time, its the law of nature. I believe dazzler will deliver between 50-55kmpl. Dazzler owner’s please comment. GS150R on the other hand is one of the most fuel efficient bike other than Unicorn. Currently I am getting 55kmpl in city not exceeding 65kmph. If you prefer mileage go for GS150R else go for dazzler. Comfort level is same for GS, Unicorn and dazzler. Mileage wise GS comes first, close second unicorn then dazzler. Performance: dazzler(amazing), next GS (high speeds), Unicorn (Allrounder). Handling: Unicorn is the best followed by dazzler next GS.

@ Hardik >brother,i wud suggest you to go for gsr on cb unicorn just cos of its features.THe overall package.
But,not on unicorn dazzler.
As you have mentioned about mileage thing.
Nodoubt this bike has best mileage in its class.
Also depends on the riding style and Running-in.
you got refined and tested engine with quality .
plus rear disk brake ADDS on.

(P.S: I want the bike to give me a decent milege (if not revving performance) and fair deal of comfort in riding, maintenance and handling…)

considerin all the things u wrote…
dazzler is for u

i had test ride Dazzler for short distance say a 100m. felt very much satisfied at the pickup in that short distance. braking is gud. the only thing that mattered me is the mismatch between the bikes sporty look and the riding posture. If honda wld have come up with slight bending sporty posture it wld definitetly a tough competition for the others in 150 cc segment. But still i guess we can go for a short handle to get that feel. its definitely a gud upgraded package.

Otherwise ride quality was ok

Just looking for a bike that can last for 10yrs atleast with less maintanance, good mileage and good for both city, highways and long RIDES.
Thank you.

Hi All,

List of Bikes i have owned and used so far:Bullety electra, Bullet standard, bullet thunderbird, honda unicorn, CBZ(old model) splendor 98 model, hero honda CD100ss, Bajaj chetak, bajaj pulsor, Kawasaki elimnator 1st lot .

People who are comparing and complainting this review is for you with full of facts. I own the new CB DAZZLER silver colour. Bike is just awesome. Completed 500kms so far. Bike acceralates like anything. Performance as promised by the company.dint go above 60 but reached sixty in quick seconds.Mileage so far i m getting 58 in City. handling is very good. bike is comfortable i m 6feet tall.

R15= People who speak about an R15 i own one that bike is pain in maintainence.U cannot use R15 to zip in traffic, If double seat bike has the worst pick-up in 150 segment. Average is 38 in City 42 on highway. top=end is good can reach 140. i have to ben by right ankle as the brakes get pressed. i m 6 feet tall. this bike is ment only for liliputs.

FZ16= king of puctures. pathetic average of 32 in city 38 on highway. handling is good.

Pulsor= jst go to all the mechanics the bike is opened within a year, Parts are cheap. but ever model has differnt parts as they have multiple desings and accident ratio u wont survive to learn lessons from ur first accident..

Suzuki GS150: parts are availabe only with the company. loacally if u get stuck in outstation lord save your soul.

Sad but true these are my experiences with all the bikes.

Hi Guys,

For all new buyers… Re think if your buying GS150R…

Here are the reason:
1. Engine is not refined, Weight is 149 kg If your using in city you might get bugged coz of initial pick up… Seating posture is not correct you might get back ache…. Pillion seat is way above.. adding to above braking n head light sucks..

But appreciate for its Mileage.. Choice is your..

Reply

Antony July 10, 2011 at 2:57 pm

You are mistaken. kerb weight is weight with full tank fuel. Since gs150r fuel tank holds 16 liters, so kerb weight is also high. But it will weight 149 kg only if you fill 16 liters petrol. How many people will fill 16 liters petrol in bike?? Gs150r kerb weight is 149 kg and Gs150r dry weight is 134 kg. Unicorn and Hunk kerb weight is 146 kg and dry weight is 130 kg. Difference is just 3 kg weight, but Gs150r has extra 6th gear and engine balancer for that weight.

Hey guys , like honda says “i enjoy honda” yes i do.. i bought Dazzler a week ago i have & i can say its really fantastic.. please understand there can never be a perfect bike for little aspect or feature ur looking for in a bike i have seen some comments about the seating posture, yes i agree it may not be so sporty but its not that bad..
its smooth as butter, nimble as anything, good on corners, not so heavy, fuel efficient, overall very good, its also a head turner. do take a test ride.. take my word u, will be amazed.. its got better throttle response, good pick up, honda quality… .. its really a very good package .. the only drawback is its got a longer waiting period. i m sure Honda will score high with this machine…

A very big HI to all the Bikers out there!!! especially to Mr. Nanjunda. Your honest review about the bikes that you have used was very impressive and helped me get a better picture of the new Honda Unicorn Dazzler!
I was really confused about which bike to buy as I am a comparatively new biker on the block. I had Dazzler and Pulsar 150 as the options as I’ve always admired Pulsar bikes.
But, your opinion has made me choose Dazzler over Pulsar.

May I also ask the Bikers out there to advice me regarding the Stability and Anti-skid features of the new CB Dazzler???

Thanks in advance,

I bought a new Honda Unicorn Dazzler, No words to say about its performance. Better than our Old Unicorn. What a comfort riding. Not a high cost for this type of bike. I am waiting to climb 1000 km, after than i can test it power too….

Hi Nithin & girish,
for Nithin, dazzler n twister is different in segment.Dazzler is 150cc n twister is 110cc,if u want performance n as well as mileage ofcourse less than twister in mileage coz it is 110cc n price doestnt matter to u den go for dazzler, its simply awesome…

for girish, close ur eyes n go for dazzler….

for dazz,
looks is good except headlamp
i think it is smaller in 150 segment
doubts relaiability without kicker
but frankly,
i thinks this engine suits for the body of stunner

Hi all

I’m planned to buy dazzler, I saw the bike on road and it looks shorter, as i’m above 6 ft height. Is it suitable for me. What is the seat height of Dazzler?

Currently using CBZ extreme and the seating is good for my height. Can i expect the same in dazzler? Pls advice…

I have got Honda Dazzler [ black color ] on my birthday 2nd June,, let me tell you its just superb : good engine, superb pickup, good average & It is lighter than Uni. Its 600 km now the engine is going more smooth and smooth, the luks are amazing superb handling hats of to HONDA. Its really a value for money, trust me.

Akash June 29, 2010 at 10:33 am

Dudes…..my personal suggestion is to go for yamaha fz-16
its brakes, handling and bull styled look and drive are amazing than the unicorn dazzler.dazzler engine is smooth and sounds good.. but yamahas engine really do good on road with its power and good mid range torque.you will love it in your first drive.its worth for its money. just test drive and go for ur unicorn choice.if the bike is for a family then go for dazzler since its better for womens to sit.for girlfriends to sit fz rockssssssss

Hi Guyss…
pls do noot think over to buy yamaha FZ…it works only for initial 1 month..pls DO NOT buy yamaha FZ…. its milage is worst..on highway too…in city it gives me only 30 and on highways max upto 35kmpl. This is my biggest regret to by yahama only bcoz of looks… it has only looks…if u r think the bike which will be relaible next 5,6 yrs then pls buy dazzler… this is really nice bike..one of my frnds has the dazzler..he is very happy as of now.. of course..honda is the most reliable for its engine…

Hi All,

I have bought uni dazzler on May 31st…Completed my 30 days and it has touched 800kms…First service too over…Only one word i can say is Awesome or excellent or great….now i m feeling the slogan of Honda “I Enjoy the Quality”it has very smooth engine with comfort riding…. its definitely a gud upgraded package than old unicorn…the wider rear tyre, sexy digi console, power increment and tubeless tyre gives u a pleasant driving and sporty look…paying just 4000 bucks extra u get thise upgrades than older Uni which is good value for money thing… In City riding i acheived mileage of 52…Depends on driving style..but it gives around 50-55 kmpl in city riding conditons…In top speed(60 – 70kmph)also bike doesnt makes noise and vibes..feels like flying….only doubt is it doesnt have kick start..oly elec start..i ve doubted and scared while hearing first..after enquiring dealr he said ..it comes wit MF battery and sure ther will be no prob for 4-5 years in battery….gear shift is really smooth and easy….braking is excellent…one more thing i like to clarify is here i seen in several posts that rear disk is risky and tough for fresh new first time riders…But the truth is rear disc is not powerfula s front one…i’ve felt rear dis is some wat 20 -30% sharper than drum brake…but ther is no question of riskiness in rear discs….on the whole its a sporty commuter,…..i m very much satisfied…it simply overtook old uni in all aspects…while comparing to pulsar(Poor per and ewngine and no comfort..only style) and gs(rust prob and relaiablity of engine) and fz(Better – but fails in mileage)..its better in all aspects…but it can beat the style of fz..but in performance and specs wise it has comparitively better than above 3…so guys go for it and Have a enjoyable riding…if any queries mail me to sun_vijay2003@yahoo.co.in….bye..

Hi Ritesh,

Jus you go and ask a good mechanic the same question u posted. Every good mechanic will not reccomend pulsar and will tell u for dazzler. Bcos after one year the engine will become so noisy and poor. jus u urself try to ride one year old pulsar and one year old unicorn..u wioll find the difference…pulsar is only for style tat too not long term….in reliablity wise i will recommend dazzler…rest is your choice…..hav test ride of both vehicles from showroom…u urself will decide which is best…

I finally picked a black dazzler after intense 2 months research & tests. And after jst a few days Im extremely satisfied.Well the headlight could be better put together but the rest no complains. Its not got stunning looks like FZ but very descent.Legendary engine was 1st on the list, smoothest gears, and even though old fashioned brake pedal very effective braking.Ride quality & suspension perfect. No jerks start or stop.Pickup not the fastest but smoothest and gradual power delivery.Battery wont bother so kick wont be missed.I prefer in being smaller im 5’11 ,its nimble and i can snake thru traffic..Plan on keeping it 5 years so looking good..

I think those guyz who r intrested in gettn a new 150cc bike, should close thier eyes and simply go wid the honda’s any machine- cb unicorn or dazzler.
b’cz on 2days date no othr motor company offers such a complete package of refined engine, gr8 performancethat is necessary for indian roads, first-class handling, superb fuel economy and most importantly best quality products.!
other bikes in 150cc segment are just for ^show business^! that may attract few crowd! bt honda provides u wid simple and sober looks with extraordinary quality and performance! the othr bikes-
pulsar-looks good, bt wait 4 2yrs and thn see it will show u its real colour..blv me its not worth, fz- looks 10/10, only thing is again the fuel efficiency..vry poor.
PEOPLE AFTER READING THE ABOVE STATMENTS WILL THINK THAT I AM BEING BIASED. BT PLZ THINK AGAIN AND ASK URSLF DAT- ” are other bikes worth of wasting such a big sum of ur earned money 4 jst few years?
i think ive answrd ur ques.!
and who r still confused.. gt a scooty 4 u!

But now i’m keenly waiting to ride the model honda CB Unicorn Dazzler. Now i’m all sorted to go for this model. the only doubt Stil i have is having no kick start, will it have the same problem like Bajaj PULSAR 200 cc model. Thanks for all the comments. HONDA RULES ALL OVER……..

@CGP
Its better if u don go above 4000 to 4500 rpm for a few months.. speed, not above 50… atleast till 2 or 3 services…
Do not neglect giving ur bike for servicing at the right time.. I owned a platina and i gave it for servicing for the 1st time after 6 months and i had rough used it… It gives a mileage of 45 as opposed to 110 which the company claims…. its better if u learn to drive properly with some old bike for several reasons
1) accidental damage
2) it might give u poor mileage as u aren’t perfectly aware of using the clutch and gear shifting properly.. If u don’t maintain it properly for the 1st few months then the mileage will be low for the rest of lifetime..

Hi Guys,
I own a Dazzler and it have completed 700 kms. Its a fantastic bike and its performance is good.
The engine is not so smooth as old unicorn…but much much much better than others. Gear shifting is smooth. Till now no probs faced with self start.
Getting mileage 50+ in city.
Breaking is fantastic and its better than any other bikes. Initially i worried about the rear disk brake.. but believe me breaking is too good.

The bike doesnt have the look like Yamaha FZ. If you are stuck with yamaha FZ and unicorn dazzler.. Listen to your head than ur heart. Dazzler is much much better than FZ.

Normally the first service is given in between 15 – 30 days or 500-750 kms.

You should get a user manual and service booklet on the day of the delivery. If you didnt get it go and check with the showroom guys.

Hi,
Finally i bought this bike (black one). 500 kms done and i’m fully satisfied. Its a great bike. I feel that its a very good combination of sport+commuter (many people does not like this).
Few things i have noted,
(1) The brakes are absolutely perfect and powerful. (2) No vibs till 50 km/hr. (3) Gear shifting is very smooth and engine sounds very decent. (4) Pickup is excellent [in the video review which i saw of Bloomberg/UTV, they calculated acceleration of dazzler (0-60 km/hr.) that is 5.19 sec & pickup of YAMAHA FZ-S a was 5.59 sec(0-60)]. (5) Blue digi. console with analogue tachometer looks really good. (6) I got mileage of 56-61 (both achieved) km/liter in city. (7)Chain & wet or dirty rear disc brake sounds little while riding. (8) little heating trouble in the morning, engine needs about 1 min. warm- up.
I decided not to go for FZ-S because of (1) low fuel economy (around 40).(2) Dazzler comes with rear disk break & viscous paper filter (i.e. low maintenance cost) & MF battery. (3) I don’t like FZ’s rear tiny seat. (4) pay R.s.2k extra (for Fz-S) than dazzler (in vadodara). (5 ) As in a review, it is little difficult to read the digi. techo.(of FZ) in sunlight. For me, dazzler’s handling becomes excellent in the traffic due to reduced weight (138 kg) compared to unicorn’s 146 kg. I had ride this bike once on 55 km/hr (before first service) and i feel noticable vibs. but now it becomes very low after first service. No diffrence in other matters. Many people does not like the style…no clip on handlebar…but half chain case…no parking lights…no led lights…no kick lever…only 4 ah battry…will discharge quickly…no 18 inch tires on same frame…over priced unreliable baby unicorn..!! BUT belive me people are starring at dazzler on road & in my collage and since pulsar and Fz are common (in my collage) no one even notice them. Battery has one year warrenty (no problem till 2 years). Dealer said that no problems till you’re servicing the bike regularly. This bike rocks PRACTICALLY.
This is my own opinion based on experience & what i saw in other reviews. The only style and looks, for which the liking differs from person to person but for me it really looks like dazzling unicorn.

@ ishan,
Congrats first of all….
i got my dazzler on 6th aug and completed 1200 kms till today….

i accept all the pros and cons listed by u…..

but one thing i m still suffering from is vibrations at 55 and above which u can feel at foot rest…..
And it feels like it cant go beyond 70 easily bcoz of vibs….

couldnt fix tat problem in first service…i think have to wait till second service….

one more question i have….do u oil the chains….
if yes which one do u use and how often….

Reply

ishan September 14, 2010 at 3:59 pm

@Chetan,
Before buying, I thought that dazzler is 100 percent vib free, also cbz x, hunk, unicorn and dazzler has same engines with different tunings. I saw in the review that cbzx – hunk are cent percent vib free but dazzler is not. I don’t understand why and also I don’t have experience of these bikes…anyways wait for second service. My maximum speed till now is 60km with noticeable vibs. I do not oil the chain but surely it is necessary to oil the chain over some period of time (I don’t know which type of oil should be used).

Hi All

I bought Dazzler (Armour gold metallic) 2 months back and completed almost 1500 Kms. Here goes my honest review

1>Before first service , I got 38 km mileage. 3 Weeks after first service, mileage is now 54 kmpl.

2>I feel the the best colour for this bike is gold mettail and red. Black looks small.

3>Rear disk break makes some noise here and there. needs to get corrected in next service.

4>Pickup and confort is excellent.

5>Less bulky than my old CB unicorn. Mainly the fuel tank looks narrow which may sho away some customers.

6>Kick start is working fine. Did not face nay issues till now.

7>Headlight is very powerful

8>Experience little vibration betwen 50 and 55 kmph. No vibration below and above this range

9>Maximum speed attained is 101 kmph (Havent tried above that as its new)

Believe me guys, people stare at me while riding…The dazzler in its gold metallic color is unique on indian road.

“Kick start is working fine. Did not face nay issues till now”

Hi vishnu,
You are right, no starting problem at all that is my self start works perfectly (since my dazzler does not have a KICK START).
Rear disc sounds only while wet or dirty (in my case) o.w. silent (except sweet sound while braking).

Self Start dazzler doesnt have Kick start…?????Is it working fine….?????

Reply

Ishan October 25, 2010 at 9:46 pm

Yes, (no) kick start was matter for me but dazzler is not first bike to get electric start only. There are many models in the market with self-start only. Eg: Pulsar 180 DTS-i, Pulsar 220 DTS-i, Hero Honda Karizma ZMR, Hero Honda Hunk (new version with double disk brake), Yamaha R15, Yamaha FZ16(-S), Kawasaki Ninja 250R, Honda CBF Stunner PGM-Fi and the Honda Dazzler (surely more will come in next years) and If self srart FAILS then any one can start bike (i tried it once) easily by pulling it in second gear (7km speed in my case). On this speed, relies clutch and accelerator together AT ONCE quickly). The bike starts in first attempt.

Antonysg July 15, 2011 at 3:02 pm

Yes, all pulsar 180, 220, kZMr, hunk, stunner, and Fz16 have faced problem with selfstart after 1 or 2 years, some even before 1 year. I have enquired with some dazzler owners and i found that at least 1 out of 3 dazzler owners have selfstart problem, that is 33%. After facing selfstart complaints from Fz16 owners, now yamaha also has given kickstart in fz16. Now, honda is experimenting with customers by removing kicker. Rear disc is only plus, but rear disk is not necessary for 150cc; it is just showpiece, not effective.

I think honda too should give kicker in dazzler now. With fz16 and FzS getting kicker, i think many will prefer Fz16 over dazzler. Note, Fz has thicker shock absorbers, bigger front disc, bigger tyres, well-designed midship exhaust, better seating posture, and much better design than dazzler. Only prob with fz is mileage of 40 due to wide tyre; hope fz gets narrower 120/70 rear tyre option. Otherwise, Fz is better than dazzler in every part.

@Srini, i am owning a Silver Machine , it is superb in look, and i think its better than any color, it is very matching for two tone seat of dazzler

Reply

Ishan October 29, 2010 at 8:56 pm

It depends upon the price and the features you want. Mainly dazzler has tubeless tires, MF Battery, rear disk brake, viscous type maintenance free air filter, Wider MRF zapper-c rear tire, Digital meter and appropriate size and weight (Unicorn does not have these features).
1300kms completed with dazzler…gives 54 mileage…very good bike.
In silver dazzler, 3d emblem of honda (logo of honda on side scoops) seems to be hidden and there is no sticker work in honda bikes so for me, red and black (i.e. my bike’s color) looks good.

Heyy guys i hve bought dazzler red colour in august and its extremely good…i am thrilled with the power nd light weight….werever i go people ask me about d price…he engine growls in high speed unlike uni and it gives a perfect racing theme..both disc breaks are smooth…front is more smoother than rear…the self start is smooth and it comes with a 5 yr warranty life…the bike is fully loaded…i choosed dis bike basically coz i was tired to see fz and pulsars and fazer was out of my budget…just test drive it and feel d power is my advice to u all

Hi,

I am confused between Yamaha FZ-16, Honda CB Unicorn Dazzler & Apache RTR 160 (Hyper Edge). I want the bike for a long period (5-7 yrs).
Mileage is not a big concern but i don’t want to keep visiting service center after buying the bike. It must be low on maintenance.

Pls friends, help me to make a firm decision……….

Hi Siddharth,

If you’re looking for glamour go for FZ-16, looking out for power then Apache RTR 160 (Hyper Edge), Unicorn Dazzler for long run!

Hope now you can select which one you prefer from the above said.

Reply

ishan November 16, 2010 at 12:51 pm

@kirthi,
1600 km completed with dazzler, there is just a hint of vibs between 55-65 km speed but vibs are now 80% lower after finishing 1600kms and i think it will be vibfree after some more use. My maximum speed is 67 but it will surly touch 120km speed, It touches 58 speed on 4.5k rpm (total rpm is 11k). 2nd service done and bike becomes smoother, no problems at all except comparatively hard shfting of 5th gear (not by servicing). Rear disk brake is superb (also in rain). Exellent bike with most realible engine of honda unicorn. It is little less (but appropriate) in weight and size and really gives me perfect handling in city traffic.

I think absense of kick start may gave problem after 3-4 years, n even in cold also it may create problem, even dealers are not giving any sure guaranty abt the absense of kick, but after all kick is very important, U cant rely on Self start only…..afterall its an electronic stuff…… So thats why i cancel Dazzler n Book CB Unicorn………….I Advice u to go with the bike having both kick n self start…..!!!!!!!!!!

Reply

Ishan November 20, 2010 at 10:21 pm

Absence of kick start may gave problem even after 3-4 months bcoz of battery problems, uncleaned carburator or air filter . Dazzler’s battery(MF) has 1 year warranty and in every service (2-3 month period), there is schedule check for battery voltage and others so if any problem then it resolves and suppose self start fails at once then any one can start the bike easily by pulling it in second gear (speed in my case was 6-7km, release clutch and accelerator AT ONCE quickly). After about 2 years MF battery have to be replace by a new one so there is no special reason for any problem after some period of time. Main thing is that servicing the bike ragularly and there will be no problems. Unicorn is little heavy little less power (0.7 bhp) than dazzler and also feature-less.

Reply

Antonysg July 15, 2011 at 3:20 pm

Do you really think honda dealers will take care of your so-called MF battery in regular service? No way. They will only do waterwash and return your bike. Once you pay the money, they dont care.

Having selfstart only is going to cause a problem surely one day. It is not just battery loss, you could lose something more important. Imagine, if your selfstart didnt work on a critical day when you are going for an interview or some other emergency?? You have to forget every appointment, put leave, and go to mechanic first. At least, if kicker is there, you can kickstart and continue with your schedule and go to mechanic another day when you have time.

Due to complaints from customers, Yamaha has given kicker in Fz16 and FzS. Now, honda is experimenting on customers by removing kicker. One day, honda too will be forced to give kicker, as now more people will buy Fz16 which has kicker.

Guys…
I purchased my Dazzler about 5 months ago after selling my 1.5yrs old UNI (You can refer my prior postings above). Till now I have completed 4000 KMS and my Bike is PERFECT. I never have had any issues with electric start. I think we should stop worrying about absence of kick starter in Dazzler as the trend is changing and more bikes are coming in without a kick starter, may be it will be completely eliminated in future from all bikes… Just think about four wheelers, is any 4 wheeler got an alternative to electric start rather than pushing?
So, lets stop worrying about kick starter and focus on more features and power of this bike. I can guarantee you from my experience that this bike is delivering to its cost. Its a bit more powerful, feature rich, economic and more handy compared to my old UNI. The only con I’ve with this bike is its giving slight vibration when compared with CB UNI, but you will never know it if you had not used UNI earler. Overall it worths for the money spent!

Reply

Antonysg July 15, 2011 at 3:52 pm

Bajaj removed kicker in 200cc and 220cc bikes, because those customers have lots of money and can afford frequent mechanic trips. But bajaj cleverly did not remove kicker in 150cc, because 150cc is purchased by comman man like us and removing kicker will affect sales.

Yamaha experimented with selfstart only in Fz16. Now, after lots of complaints from customers, yamaha has given kickstart in Fz16. For a commuter bike for daily use, having kicker option is always better. Dont compare with cars. Cars have at least 30 Ah to 100 Ah batteries. Dazzler 4 Ah battery is just not sufficient. The least honda can do is give dazzler a 7 Ah or 8 Ah battery. But honda always take more money and give less features.

What will you do if your bike selfstart fails at crowded traffic signal?? What if it happens on a day when you have some emergency work?? If kicker is there, at least you can kickstart and continue your schedule and go to mechanic another day.

true January 12, 2012 at 9:37 pm

Dont compare dazzler with cars or with R15.

Cars have only selfstart but cars also have fuel-injection system, not carburetor. Selfstart is more reliable with fuel-injection system.

Even R15 has fuel-injection, so no kicker needed for R15. But Dazzler has carburetor, so it should have kicker.

Hi friends,
Today I took test drive of dazzler, hunk $ FZ-S
DAZZLER- for those who want quality with economy too
HUNK- just ok, for those who have craze for hero Honda only
FZ- for those who want only quality with lots of style and don’t care about economy

Now I m just giving a quick look at all of them
I live in lucknow, at first I went at Honda showroom
DAZZLER
Before this bike I have ridden only one 150cc bike that is extreme & pulsar that too below 60.
In past I was driving only 100 & 125 cc bikes
When I started dazzler, at the very same moment I felt its smoothness
Little bit road near the showroom was jammed in traffic, bike did well in cutting the traffic
After 100 or 200 m I entered in VIP road (neheriya VIP road). Road is for high speed traffic
Now I accelerated it. Wow!!!!!!!!!! What an acceleration……… amazing…
I didn’t heard ne sond till fifty sooooooooooooooo smooth
After 50 & 60 sound increased little bit (but that was nothing infront of hunk, after ridding hunk I realised that, dazzler was very very very……………………………… less noisy)
But I didn’t felt any vibration in dazzler
When I was around 60 I experienced some power loss (very negligible), may be bike was cold and fuel was about to finish, and it was a trial bike which required to be serviced (is this normal under these conditions????)

When I was at abot 85 I applied both brakes very hardly, bike stopped in very less space but back tyre skitted not less but not so more that I can fall.
Once again I accelerated till 90, before taking U turn I stopped it very gradually nd decently, now it didn’t skitted
I turned it now I was going to drive it just for speed
I started accelerating it may be I gave it early gear that’s why I was able to take it till 100 to 105 kmph only.
But at 100 kmph bike was highly smooth, very little noise when compared to others, rarely any vibrations I didn’t felt any of them, rock solid and at the same time very easy to handle, flowing like water(which I never felt in hunk.in hunk cutting and turning at 100kmph was so difficult bike was so stiff, and I was very nervous to cange its direction while cutting in traffic. May be due too I was driving hunk for the first time, but I was driving dazzler also for the first time but it was very very easy task for dazzler. Dazzler will make u comfortable itself. While in hunk you will have to practice it for some time. But I was feeling that if I will turn hunk att 100kmph then bike will fell, so I was applying brakes at every turn in hunk unlike dazzler), I was cutting the other cars on the road very efficiently with out any brakes, though I was at 100kmph, I was little nervous, I was driving dazzler for the first time, but it was DAZZLER who kept me so calm and confident even at 100kmph in moderate traffic. There is a little curve on the road and I very confidently turned it. When I was again in the city traffic I applied gradual brakes,
Gears are too smooth, I think it is the smoothest in its class even smoother than FZ
(I HAVE NOT DRIVEN CB UNICORN so cant say about that)
But when it was going to put it in first gear then I had to make much effort to apply first gear while reducing or stopping this bike (can any one say about it??? Is it also normal????)
But on whole I am a big fan of this bike, cant explain. Just take a test ride of it then olnly u will come to know that what it is.
Cant say any thing about only self start, if there will be any problem in it so we can push the bike and satar it.and once it is warmed up it will be ok for the whole day.
And at last even human body needs regular maintenance so it is just a machine, just treat it as ur body part and then ur bike will never let u down, in this condition even pulsar will be reliable for a very long time, than why not Honda? After all its Honda..
Though it is not so stylish for some persons, but this choice changes from person to person.
It is a choice of a technical person.who want combination of power and economy too.
But than too I cant say any thing about its mileage as till now I am not an owner of it
I just took a test drive of it that too for about 5 km.
But m going to purchase it. I will order it for white colour.
Bike is really awesome, I would say that you can go for it.

Abot hunk and Fz I will tell you later as I am not so good typer and my hands are paining. I have my match tomorrow so I have too wake early.
Bye bye……

Hi guys,
I own a Honda Unicorn Dazzler and I am proud of it. I went to honda store for purchasing older Unicorn, but when I saw Dazzler and its features, I immidiately decided to buy it.
Ill share my experiences with you..

Older Unicorn is sick looking as compared to Dazzler.. Dazzler looks more beautiful.
Better Breaking system than older Unicorn
Better pickup than older Unicorn
Better milage than older Unicorn
Better roadgrip than older unicorn
Very Very stable at speed of 95-98.. It outperforms most of the bikes in 150CC.

I just had my first servicing done and bike is smoother as ever…

My advice is do not try finding out old and new comparisons as it doesnt make sense. Go for Dazzler anytime

I strongly disagree with Mr. Nunjunda who says GS150r engine is not refined. Honda unicorn engine is silent. Gs150r engine is grunty. That is the difference. The sound is mainly because of the exhaust setup. Many bikers like grunty sound; they get proper feedback about the bike when riding. Just because a bike is louder, does not mean its engine is not smooth. Exhaust tone does not indicate smoothness. To guage smoothness of engine/bike, check if you feel any Vibrations on the footpegs and handle. In short, check for vibrations, not sound of exhaust. Gs150r has a strong engine; in fact, at high speeds it is smoother than unicorn.

Peak torque @ lower rpm = lesser gear shifts in city riding
Peak power bhp @ higher rpm = engine is less stressed in top speed and can sustain top speed for longer duration.

Regarding dazzler, please note that unicorn’s peak torque comes @ 5500 rpm, Gs150r @ 6000 rpm, and dzzler @ 6500 rpm. This means unicorn requires lesser gear changes than dazzler in slow-moving city traffic, especially noticeable with pillion or steep roads. But due to light weight, dazzler is easier to turn than both unicorn and gs150r in slow city traffic.

Peak bhp power of unicorn comes at 8000 rpm, so engine feels stressed at top speed. But, like gs150r, dazzler is less stressed than unicorn in top speed as peak bhp power comes at higher 8500 rpm. But stability wise on highways, both unicorn and gs150r beat dazzler.

Antony,

Speaking about torque and compare Unicorn with Dazzler (not sure about GSR as I never ride it), technically Unicorn requires lesser gear shift during city ride, but from my experience I can say that it is Dazzler require lesser gear shifts!!! I had Unicorn earlier and I have Dazzler now. Unicorn gave me the feeling to shift 5th to 4th gear when ever the speed goes down to 35KMPH and it is must between 29-30KMPH. In case of Dazzler, even at 25KMPH no gear shifting is required and it is must between 22-23. May be because if its lesser weight…

Friend, Dont go for dazzler or unicorn for long distance rides as both the bikes are not designed for long distant rides. I travel daily from Thane to Andheri which is almost 60 kms of up-down by my dazzler and I am facing back aches. Always go for cruiser bikes like avenger.. dont even think of sports bikes. In terms of stability and milage, dazzler is better than fz. FZ has got a bigger grunt while dazzler is more smooth and stable at high speeds. Dont even plan for Uncle unicorn bike its too outdated and there are better bikes in market. I would recommend, go for avenger… :)

if fz has lower maintenance ..i’ll go for it or else Dazzler

what say you?

Shaji February 28, 2011 at 10:52 pm

There is no bike in the Indian market which can compete the old unicorn.

I own a dazzler and i have completed 8000 kms already.. getting pretty good mileage. I am getting 55+ in the city.

Even i experienced seating problems initially but got corrected by the service center. The engine is so smooth.
There will be some kind of vibs in the leg rest while driving at 50-55 kms.. But after my first service they got completely reduced.
The bike lags acceleration, but believe me once it crosses 45 km speed, you will not notice even if you reach 70+…
The bike gives excellent control, best commuter bike for riding in city.

The looks may be less when compared to yamaha FZ. If you follow ur heart go for FZ, if you follow ur brain then select Dazzler :)

Rahul March 1, 2011 at 8:49 am

Dear DJFrost, In my opinion go for Dazzler instead of FZ as I find Dazzler seating arrangement to be more comfortable than FZ. FZ is more like a sporting model and is more for a city ride… Dazzler can go miles and miles… Even the fuel economy of dazzler is better…. :)

Dazzler has just 2 advantages, lesser weight and rear disk brake. But it does not have a lot of things, the most important being kickstart. Imagine, if selfstart fails at a crowded traffic signal, then what? Also, dazzler lacks pilot light in headlight and lacks engine kill switch. Among this, the engine kill switch is really needed; otherwise, you have to keep using the ignition key everytime, which is inconvenient and also results in key becoming loose faster. And then, no full chain cover. Agree, half chain cover is sporty, but that is good for clean, dust-free european and american roads. In India, we have very muddy, dirty, and dusty roads. This results in accumulation of dust on chain and chain loses lubrication, resulting in faster wear and tear of chain and sprocket. This is the fact. Surely, for a family man/commuter, the bigger old cb unicorn, suzuki gs150r, and hunk are better choices. Gs150r plus point is 6th gear and is good for people who go on long weekend highway rides. The new lighter yamaha SZ-R is also a very good city commuter bike. Pulsar’s weakness is its gearbox. For younsters, i suggest dazzler, apache, or Fz16, which are all slightly smaller bikes. All these bikes are good. I dont think honda gives any better quality, because the same local vendors supply parts to all bike makers. Each has some features and lacks some features. Choose the bike that has the features you want and fits your budget.

i owned dazzeler from 9th month of 2010 i completed 10500km without any problem from engine of course i used castrol power1 starting from 2nd servicing. The only extra noise i hav heard r from chain, & as of indian condition u hav to clean & lubricate chain every 1000 km & in rainy 700-800km. Bike is very good, i ride fz it got superb handling, superb enough u can corner it with brake slide coz of 140 size of tyre.but also cause ofthis it lacks mileage & pickup.but good combination
these factors in daz. My daily run is arnd 60km at speed from 60-80 it still gives avg arnd 53-58,good for me.bike hav best pickup compred to any 150(except r15 fuel injection ,liquid cool)even 160 apache.the problem which i know from purchase is the battery. Honda still believes in conservative styling with good fuel economy that is what is unicorn…dazzler.
Yes man oveall quality in terms of engine smoothness, plastics, switches and fit and finishes is way ahead than other.

I had booked dazzler. But now since August 2011, dazzler is not available in showrooms. The showroom people say dazzler production has stopped. Why they dont know. They say next batch of dazzler expected in 2012 only.

Does anybody here know why dazzler production has stopped??

I think honda may give kicker option, because new yamaha Fz-S has kicker now. So, thinking of SZ-r or Fz-s or even RTR180 now, prefer lighter bike. RTR180 has rear disk and kicker too. For bigger bike, I prefer Gs150r or Hunk over Cb-unicorn, as unicorn is outdated and lacks many features.

Dazzler has no kicker, only selfstart. This could be a problem in cold and rainy weather. If selfstart fails at traffic signal, what will you do? Will you push in middle of road in traffic?

Dont compare dazzler with cars or with R15. Dazzler battery is only 4 Ah. Cars have powerful 30 Ah to 100 Ah battery.

Yes, cars have only selfstart, but cars also have fuel-injection system, not carburetor. Selfstart is more reliable with fuel-injection system.

Even R15 has fuel-injection, so no kicker needed for R15. But Dazzler has carburetor, so it should have kicker.
