Bajaj vs Honda: Honda post huge lead in the July 2012

The second position of Bajaj Auto in the domestic market is now taken by HMSI. For the period of April to June 2012 HMSI sold few thousands units more compared to Bajaj Auto.  However, in the month of July HMSI sold nearly 30,000 units more than Bajaj Auto in the domestic market. HMSI sold nearly 2,30,000 units of the two wheeler  compared to Bajaj Auto’s 2,00,000 units of motorcycle in the domestic market.

HMSI sold 2,39,094 units of two wheeler in the month of July 2012 up by 56.90% compared to 1,52,382 units of two wheeler in the month of July 2011. HMSI sold 1,29,601 units of scooters in the July 2012 up by 41.42% compared to 91,642 units in the month of July 2011. The company sold 1,09,493 units of motorcycle in the July 2012 up by 80.27% compared to 60,740 units of motorcycle in the July 2011. This is the first month where HMSI motorcycle sales growth has outpaced scooter sales growth. It seems that Dream Yuga is really doing wonder for HMSI.

Bajaj Auto sold around 2,00,000 units of motorcycle in the July 2012 in the domestic market. The company saw the flat growth in the domestic market due to sluggishness in the economy. The plus sign for Bajaj Auto remains the response to its newly launched Pulsar and Discover. New Pulsar 200NS managed to sell around 5,600 units while the new Discover 125ST sold 14,400 units in the month of July. The company aim to sell 10,000 units of Pulsar 200NS and 25,000 units of Discover by September. The response to new Pulsar is tremendous considering the sluggishness in the premium segment.

HMSI sold 8,49,767 units during March to July 2012 compared to 8,19,024 units of Bajaj Auto for the same period. The launch of mass motorcycle Dream Yuga is helping HMSI to gain market share in the domestic motorcycle segment. HMSI has now started gaining motorcycle market share at the cost Hero Moto corp which is a clear signal that HMSI will leave no stone unturned to secure its first position in India by 2020. Bajaj Auto is readying itself to gain market share in 100cc motorcycle segment. 100cc motorcycle segment is the only key for Bajaj Auto to secure second position in the domestic market. It is to be noted that 100cc segment accounts almost 65% of the total motorcycle sold in the country. Bajaj Auto may launch the new Boxer 100cc motorcycle in the upcoming days.
