2011 Yamaha R15 Spied Again!

by Deepak on May 25, 2011

A reader of BikeAdvice, sent me this image of the supposedly all New 2011 Yamaha R15. It is claimed to have 22 PS of power, new Headlamps and LED tail Lamps, Split seats, New alloy wheel design, a revamped ECU, rear wheel hugger and an overall fresh look.

The Spy Photo of the 2011 Yamaha R15 has been removed following the request from Yamaha. Yamaha declines to comment on the speculation and remains silent about the launch date which is rumored to be on June 14th 2011.

ramesh bista May 25, 2011 at 10:49 am

wow dipak g u done a good . this looks so sexy that i m feeling greedy . really does it have 22 ps of power ? is it coming in the marker soon ?

Satadru Sengupta May 25, 2011 at 10:55 am

Whatever the looks might be, Yamaha Motors need to seriously consider positioning the front turn indicators or designing these withstand the rigors of daily commute. I have come across many specimens with sheared off indicators or those hanging limp from the stubs attached. Testament to the riders’ skills in trying to squeeze their way past narrow gaps in congested traffic.

Yamaha could do well, so to speak, to take a leaf out of the book of Bajaj Auto insofar as the turn indicators are concerned. The Discovers and the Pulsars have indicators which spring back to their original positions even when bent or twisted. Of course, there is a reasonable degree upto which they can withstand that kind of punishment.

AG May 25, 2011 at 4:57 pm

Another Bajaj marketer… Find another place… Build quality of a Yamaha is far far better than a Bajaj

fas May 25, 2011 at 9:40 pm

Is that even to discuss? Everyone knows that.

amitabh May 30, 2011 at 3:51 pm

You can try the rear indicators of r15 in front………… it works try it

aditya May 25, 2011 at 10:58 am

is it officially launched by yamaha or just modified one

ron May 25, 2011 at 10:59 am

R125 body on R15 :D cool :D looks better then previous R15 n R125

Pavan May 26, 2011 at 11:02 am

Yes, looks damn cool.

ron May 25, 2011 at 11:01 am

but the alloy wheels look weak… :(

Afletra May 25, 2011 at 11:03 am

I definitely gonna buy this cool bike, I always love YAMAHA,
Hope the price will not excess to much from the last R15…

Sachin May 25, 2011 at 11:05 am

This is a sensational news. 22ps seems overkill for 150cc machine.

ashutosh May 25, 2011 at 11:07 am

awesome.. since the bike is in production, does this means the testing phase is over, because i can see one black one standing idle and one black one (on left) on the ramp..
Did mr. sareen give any other information about when will it be launched or anything more..??

I forgot to say thanks though :).. thanx for the all new pic

McHem May 25, 2011 at 11:46 am

if 22ps is true, Honda CBR250R is overtaken

VJ May 27, 2011 at 2:53 pm

Completely wrong..CBR is different and R15 is different..Nothing will be affected to CBR..Not even a bit..it affects KTM 200 a lot…

Reeto May 25, 2011 at 12:13 pm

Sounds good. But 22PS of power is a bit difficult to believe. The earlier R15 could manage 21PS of power provided the Daytona ECU, exhaust, high lift cams and larger sprocket were all integrated. A stock R15 engine has to be modified to a substantial extent to extract 22PS of power which I don’t think Yamaha will considering they are looking to launch their 250cc single cylinder bike by this year end.

Hemant May 26, 2011 at 11:18 am

Hey Reeto, how do you know that Yamaha is looking to launch 250cc by this year end? Any specific, reliable source?

Saptarshi Sinha May 25, 2011 at 2:07 pm

Yamaha has certainly done its home work on the design front …. but the rear wheel hugger doesn’t really go with the look. i would expect a slightly thicker rear may be 110 or 120 one.
But one thing a single 149.8 cc generating 22ps is certainly questionable specially for a road bike which hits red line at 10500 rpm, even with a revamped ecu as there are environmental considerations. Then it must red line way above 10500, may be at 13000 with the max power generated at that nearby rpm.

If one remembers the racing edition generates about 22hp or 23ps with a racing ecu, free flow filter & exhaust – all of which are not allowed on the roads. Plus if all this is still true – then the mileage will have taken a beating.

Sam May 25, 2011 at 2:08 pm

Great news Deepak.
Fantastic bike, gets my adrenaline rush. Wish the price is not too steep.

Richard May 25, 2011 at 2:08 pm

Looks good but 150CC is too low, Yamaha should have now 400CC segments.

ravi roshan May 25, 2011 at 2:10 pm

this is good step 4 indian market yamaha company…………………..

ravi roshan May 25, 2011 at 2:22 pm

Prashant Bhardwaj May 25, 2011 at 2:45 pm

Nice upgrade done by yamaha at the right time when CBR is all set to take the sports bike market by storm. YES!YAMAHA

luq May 25, 2011 at 3:18 pm

If its 22ps then its sumthing to own…hope the price is less than the Honda cbr 250…cause its its abetter option for aless price…its realy grt machine ..wow…whn is being lunched

sufi May 25, 2011 at 4:19 pm

Faaaadu …man…22 ps Amazing…udegii ye toh….bhai log

Saran May 25, 2011 at 6:25 pm

Sexy looks and Killer styling… It lights up the fire of owning a racing machine on everyone…

But,,, I don’t understand this. Why does Yamaha always under power its beauties?
22ps (if true) would definitely stress out the 150cc mill.

May be a 180 or 200cc with 22ps would have been a better option I feel.
Just think of the returns guys… a fully squeezed 150cc mill will definitely increase the fuel consumption.

I feel this move by Yamaha will take R15 still more higher to reach. The looks will compel you to buy… But you cant coz you cant afford. Is Yamaha doing this as a part of Brand Building or Increasing Market share??? Well I’m not sure…

I know this machine is not for people who care about mileage. But still this thought keeps on ringing in my mind…

sanchit May 25, 2011 at 6:53 pm

this is the 1st bike that has come up as i wanted! Man it looks killing !! The guy sitting on the bike is indian so definitely it is coming in the market !! I think i should find a summer job so that i buy this thing!

JK ultimate May 25, 2011 at 7:23 pm

WoW…. wat a nice style…. now its WORTH buying R15 for about 1.5lacks.

Akshay May 25, 2011 at 9:00 pm

Great news to deceive the well learned one. It is wrong to assume that yamaha will lnch such bike. If does with 22ps it must be a 250 Cc. May be a R15 but surely not with 22ps.yamaha would do well to take the rear wheer cover out.that is just nt acceptable. Lot of homework to do for before it releases a facelift of r15.

hafeez May 25, 2011 at 9:46 pm

when will be launched..?

vimal May 26, 2011 at 11:51 am

i hope this is not the final model,i dont like rare design, cmon yamaha i need ABS in new R15,i dont need hi capicty engine ,its increase weight of the bike,as cbr 250 did,,150cc with 19ps whould be great, more than enough for me.

Prasanjeet May 26, 2011 at 7:15 pm

Out of the couple of things that concerned me with the new R15, one was power of course.. and I have a sigh of relief with 22PS if it is true….
the second the looks .. which according to me sucks… I liked the original R15…and this has spoit the look.. the bike looks DISPROPORTIONATE NOW. t
They say WHEN YOU HAVE SOMETHING DONE VERY NICELY AND SUCCESFULLY, DON’T TOUCH THAT AGAIN… R15 was an instant success because of many factors, but looks eing a big factor.. no other bike in india could match the awesome looks of R15.. now yamaha just because some wannabe’s and idiots said that ” back tyre is thin, i don’t like it ” yamaha though experienced enough screwed it up.
And what about that rear hugger– the mudguard.. that is the worst thing to happen to R15.. ever.. period.. it looks like that stupid pulsar 135… whay did they have to do that
R15 was a mini R1 before which was great.. coz I think in 1000cc sports category, R1 looks better than CBR100rr but in 600cc, CBR600rr takes the win against R6 in looks department…think about it mate.. all points I mentioned are correct to the core..

Tanmoy Sengupta May 26, 2011 at 8:12 pm

Its rear wheel hugger is look lyk Pulsar 135LS (old version) & alloys r looks also not so strong. Can it take down POT holes on Indian road..??

Chandramouli May 27, 2011 at 6:49 am

It’s a really gorgeous bike. Surely give run for the money to CBR 250 in pricing and design, hope to see it in showroom soon. It’s now combination of three bikes R125, R6, R1.
Great product by Yamaha.

hari May 27, 2011 at 5:11 pm

Im from yamaha guyz the bike is going to be launched on the 14 th of june ….the bike is of 22ps….120/90 tyres….and a complete new ECU remapped..

sai ram June 1, 2011 at 1:59 pm

is it true …will it launch on 14 th june….where they are going to release….when it wil come into the market….
im very eager to konow coz im going to buy an r15 ..if the new once will come early then ill surely buy new one….please tell…

y June 1, 2011 at 12:25 pm

@hari..is that true?….
is it 150cc or 125 cc…and what will be the price…is that include ABS??

Nimai Kumar Das June 2, 2011 at 2:50 pm

listen carefully,,,,,, Yamaha India had launched the existing R15 in June, 2008. In these 3 yrs., yamaha studied/collected the complaints of customers from everywhere…Most of the complainants raised the questions relating to its rear look including single seat and thinner tyres while others have raised questions about its small power…Now as the Yamaha has to keep its market share continue to growth side, they are going to launch the new R15 wid rear redesigning (however front look have also been changed a bit) and higher PS.. Please don’t be happy right now. The Yamaha have, perhaps, tried to please the customers by adding an ECU to its engine…no extra Engine upgradation has been done as expected..only the ECU will work to range the power to 22 ps.. so problem of engine killing chances may arise..
My suggestion is “To wait untill the machine is not revealed by the official of Yamaha India….The bike has to launch by June or July…But only in the condition of clearance of its previous stocks..

sharath June 2, 2011 at 10:55 pm

guys save the image on pc and zoom pic to R symbol on the bike
i am seeing R25 not 15

its not clear but try this from below

infact compare the 1 in R15 pic (available on off site) and the very grainy image next to R

the image seems fatter but its one image(so R125 or 225 not possible)
the 1 in R15 is like slash(/ thin)

pardon if im seeing things

i hv posted this elsewhere even im exited and curious

Maximum June 18, 2011 at 4:32 pm

Folks, The Yamaha R15 bike has been ready since december but I think that Yamaha has not launched the R15 bike because they were waiting for Honda to launch the CBR250R & now the pricing so they can accordingly price their bike. Otherwise if they price their bike at price a little bit higher than their competitor’s they could lose their potential customer’s. Now that the pricing is out, you would think that Yamaha would launch the bike by now but still haven’t, the reason could be is that they are waiting for Bajaj to launch the KTM Duke 125/200. So when can we expect the launch of the R15 ? Maybe after the KTM Duke is launched that could be during Diwali or by December. About the power increase we can expect the bike to have a power out-put of 19 bhp which its competitor CBR150R has also which is 19 bhp.

AJ July 2, 2011 at 2:55 am

KTM 200 is a very potent bike…I mean very very potent…It had a top whack of 160+km speeds with good to great torque in the mid range..I don’t think so Yamaha should think of competing with 200 with a 150cc displacement, KTM is traditionally known for producing such bikes..

DANGER X June 20, 2011 at 5:10 am

come on man why is yamaha doing this to their fans why does anyone here really know when is it launching whats the price and specifications i have already booked a cbr but i still wanna wait for r15 coz its worth waiting i have waited since december and i can still wait for it i know the cbr will kill it on the road but the bike never wins the rider wins it so i think 22ps is more then enough is more then enough for me

Paladuguashok June 20, 2011 at 9:15 pm

Yamaha,India. July 6, 2011 at 2:22 pm

The all new R15(code name as of now) will be launched next year at Delhi Auto Expo 2012.Pre bookings start in December. We have slightly changed the asthetics of the bike and given the engine a slight punch of 22PS along with a revamped ECU unit to compensate the increased weight of the bike .The bike seems to be more stable and quick now.We will not reveal other specifications as of now.

2 variants of the bike will be available :
ABS version at 1.3Lakhs(ex-showroom) and non-ABS version at 1.10Lakhs(ex-showroom).

Currently we are testing both ABS and non-ABS variants and we promise to unveil the best performance out of the bike. Also, we are trying our very best to clear the last production stock of the discontinued R15 by September 2011 and may also prepone the bookings for the new Variant.

Disclaimer : we have posted this info with a fake email-id for security reasons. For more updates, kindly keep in touch with our customer care executives as we strive to serve you the best.

Pavan July 8, 2011 at 9:32 pm

Well, this seems like this is from Yamaha itself. But you people could launch it this year itself. You ppl are late. I’m sure ppl will get bored listening to rumours. Hope Yamaha comes with out with some official words about this bike.

Boon July 15, 2011 at 12:11 pm

Thanks a lot Yamaha.
I am riding the current Yamaha R15 for past two years, but will buy that one too.
Right now I wait.

Ro July 8, 2011 at 8:07 am

The Yamaha comment above seems fake, even I have done comments like these in iPhone forums so i know :D

AJ July 11, 2011 at 6:54 pm

The above update from Yamaha,India is amazing, but not true..
Being a company of Yamaha’s stature..the very use of word prepone(which doesn’t exist),lays everything to rest that someone has tried his/her best and failed to decieve!!!!!!!!:)

Sandeep July 15, 2011 at 12:40 am

YAMAHA INDIA? Convincingly written.. i hope it aint a fake disclosure ; )

Pradeep July 15, 2011 at 4:13 pm
